Projects Any Henry Js in the House?? Pictures??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by plodge55aqua, Jan 16, 2009.

  1. I agree Out, just because someone built it first, doesn't mean you can't do it or do it better. This example, just extended the roof on a 2 dr. Henry J, my drawing is different.
I remember when the first 2 door Nova wagon was done and then, many followed.

And if you go back far enough you could order a house from Sears too. Further back you could order cocaine and opium.

I agree. I like the Photoshop version beter than the SEMA wagon. I don't like the rear side window arrangement on the SEMA HJ or the wood. Wood is for carpenters and termites. I think I'd do one with the pillars similar to a Nomad.

If you look the Woodie HJ has stock rear windows as the middle windows. It helps tie in the HJ in the side view of the car. I 'm not crazy about the back side glass but it's still one of the nicest Henry Js out there.

Yes, very nice! Just not my style. I see modern econo wagons done in a similer fashion, using sedan back side glass. To me it looks like someone stuck a little piece of wagon roof on the back rather than starting at the back seat where the roof and glass should start, to my personal way of thinking.

I just got my car home today. I'm in the same boat you are, no referance points. My floor was probably rusted out as well, but a previous owner cut it all out as well as the firewall. Rockers are mostly pop riveted tin. I'm thinking about cutting everything out and using 2X3 14 ga tubing for the raised part of the doorsill and make the cosmetic part from sheet metal.

What I need to know is the distance across the interior of a solid car at a point just above the bottom hinge and also behind the door at about the same height. Can anyone help?

  9. Would any of you with henry J's be willing to take pictures of the rear seat , I am missing the seat bottom for the rear seat on my henry j and need to recreate it down the road.

As a fellow HABMer, I may be able to do you one better. If I still have the seat bottom to mine, I'll give it to you. I'll check when I get to my shop on Tuesday. PM me Tuesday evening in case I get swamped at work and forget. I wasn't going to run a backseat and may have thrown it out, but I'll check.

Been working on this Henry since November, put all new floors,454 motor, dropped axel ect, (see photo's before and after) one of the guys watching the build had to have it, so I let it go at the after stage. He is going to continue on with blue tint in windows and fancier tires and wheels and paint.........

    Hi guys,
We're building a '51 Henry- J 60's Gasser looking Street Rod with a Crower Injected 496" BB Chev / Turbo 400 / 9" Strange 456 rear. Last week we got the glass installed. Now we'll wire it, and take in for the interior. My Regards Ken MAGOOZ Seattle, Wa.

Some of us have HJ's that were field cars. We lost all our reference points to rust. If anyone has any pics of sheetmetal repairs around the cowl/floor/rocker/sill area we'd appreciate seeing them.

Thanks Swade. If I can get the rockers and sub rockers built I won't have any problem with the floors.
