1940 Ford Deluxe "Business" Coupe V8 60HP - HOW RARE ?

    I have a rolling 1940 Ford Deluxe "business" Coupe complete less engine & trans which has a chassis number begining with the prefix 54.

    My research to date suggests that all V860 equipped cars in 1940 have a chassis number begining with 54.

    According to the Early Ford V8 Club of America Forums there was only 161 ( Total - all body Styles ) produced in the Deluxe trim with the V8 60.

    I have included the extract from the EFV8 club forums

    Yes, there were 161 DeLuxe models (total) equipped with 60H.P. engines. There were both DeLuxe and "Standard" models equipped with the 95 H.P. (Merc) engines.

    Can anyone on this forum substantiate the rarity of the 1940 Deluxe "business" Coupe equipped with the 60HP flathead?

    Does anyone have the actual production numbers ( break up) for the various "Deluxe" body styl;es produced with the V8 60 in 1940?

    Bob, the car is equipped with an I beam front axle.

    Some sources suggest that the tube axle was not always used on post 1937 production and that an I beam axle is 'correct' for a 1940 V8 60.

    Perhaps others on the forum can confirm this.

    Sure, it'll give you AN answer...Ford archives, Ford experts and Ford enthusiasts alike have argued this for eons.
    Don't ask me, I'm only a tube axle collector/hoarder.
    I lust for them...One of mine came out of a '40 Opera Coupe, BTW. (V8 60) But only one.

    According to the "V8 Affair" 85 hp was known as model 01A and the 60 hp was model 022A and only appeared in standard model. Hope this helps.
    Also I have always heard the tube axle was only associated with the 1937 V8 60 although anything is possible.
