He knows a lot of guys here on the hamb, but he tends to lurk I am sure. Being anonymous, (the internet) would be one way to be able to still hang out with car guys without all of the star struck types chasing after him.

  3. its a shame that people like him and leno, hetfield and other "famous" car guys cant come on here and just hangout without having the starrey eyed stalker types bother them to death

i guess thats the price of fame

Isn't that the truth. When you get JJ on here he's got so many guys giving him computer head he probably doesn't need to get laid for a month.

  7. Technically speaking, the title to the thread reads, "Billy F. Gibbons - ZZ Top"

Your first post asks if anyone in hamb land knows him.

    Just sayin'.

    l·bum/ˈalbəm/
    Noun:
A blank book for the insertion of photographs, stamps, or pictures.
A collection of recordings, on long-playing record, cassette, or compact disc, issued as a single item.

Just something that irks me, peoples thinking an album is an record.

  10. Thank you Dictionary Donnie.

Honestly their music is great but if I ever did sit down casually and just hang out with the guy I would have to...just have to ask him after a few beers..ever have a bird fly out of that thing?

    ....Or a bat?

Billy is one of my all time guitar slingers, he has some of the tastiest licks known to man. Thanks Billy for the cool tunes thru the years.

Saw him at SEMA a few years ago hanging out and having a beer. I'm sure he gets tired of people bothering him so I let him be.
In high school I used to pump gas and Frank Beard's dad used to stop by quite often. A buddy of mine mowed their yard and Mr. Beard gave him a stack of ZZ Top "that little ole band from Texas" stickers. He brought them to school and they were stuck everywhere in the school. Wish I had kept one.

  15. Hummm....

I don't know about this one.

I saw Kenny Wayne Shepherd last night. Pretty fuckin' good with a pick!

  16. My sister's step-mom's neighbors, cousin's best friend's uncle (on his dad's side) once drove by a guy who saw him on TV doing an interview with a guy who knew him.

I went to Sturgis with a friend (1990 I think) who looked very much like Billy. That year we were so innundated with people seeking autographs we had to just play along to get them to leave. I'd tell them that this is not Billy! They would wink and say "Yea, sure, but please sign my tit!" Okee dokie! Not a single person ever noticed that the signature said "Limon". We had to be escorted out of the #10 Saloon because of the crowd. At Dirty Nellies, the band asked Limon to play, I had to just say contractual obligations wouldn't allow that to get them to leave us alone, besides Limon didn't have a clue how to play! Having many nice semi-naked women asking us to sign their bodies was kinda cool!

My sincere apologies to Billy if he's reading this! We never told anyone that Limon was Billy, it was always the crowds telling us. I am sure he probably thought we were impersonating him as he was in Sturgis as well that year.

For whatever it's worth, Ted Nugent really likes him.

  18. This is the Money we could've saved had we voted Billy Gibbons President...

Saw Billy in North Dakota in the 70's and at the 2nd Lone star Round Up when he was Hob Nobbing with Ronny Dawson!

I grew up listening to ZZ Top. They are one of my parents favorite bands, and mine as well. Years ago I worked at a hot rod shop in Richmond, TX, where Frank Beard lives. His house rules, the gate says "Top 40", I always thought that was cool. I worked on one of Franks cars at that shop, but never met him. I still have the chrome ZZ Top keychain I've had since I was a kid that I won at a carnival. I still have the original Eliminator model kit I butchered when I was a wee lad. A few years back when I was working at another rod shop, Billy came in for a visit. He was very cool, soft spoken, and smaller in person than I imagined him to be. ZZ Top rules.

Never met Billy but I gave my wife a Pearl Necklace.

  22. After reading a few of these posts in this thread,I could swear the HAMB got hacked and is now under the control of teenage girls...While I too love the guys music,I could do without the fantasy's of meeting him or knowing someone who knows him....At the end of the day,he is just a car guy like all the rest of us.

Now i'm off to start my J.Hetfield/K.Hammet/T.Allen/J.Beck/J.Vaughn thread

Is a guy who hangs around concert halls in cool clothes, wild hair, and carries a guitar - but can't play a lick - still a musician?

"Lighten up Francis". I don't think the motives behind some of us wanting to meet someone like Billy Gibbons can be compared to the screeching of teenage girls when they meet some flash in the pan pop star. The fact that he is a dyed in the wool hot rodder as well as an accomplished artist is what makes the idea of meeting him appealing to guys like us.

Donnie, you better write to Webster's dictionary and have them change it then. Their dictionary reads under 2; one or more recordings(as of tapes or discs) produced as a single unit.

i was in Barnes and Nobles not long ago and they had a book about his guitars and his cars or something like that. He owns some nice rides i didn't know about. I wish i would have brought the book but was short on cash that day so was just reading it while waiting for the wife to get done.

  29. I rolled bones with him at the Hard Rock in Vegas once. He had $5 on the pass line and that was it.
