That car makes the BEST case for one of those inertia switches that turn off the fuel in the event something like this happens

 

Noted!.......I was just going off the info given in the post, As I have seen alot of guys mess up some really good projects because they do not have the first clue of what they are doing. but after reading your post and Doing a search it looks like this project is in the right hands.

 

I saw the title then started reading.. Seeing all the 2005 pictures were making me think "that spoiled brat.." but then the wreck? That totally sucks. Thank God both the occupants made it out all right.

Definitely cool that your gramps hung onto it all those years and is letting you rebuild it. As soon as you're done, take him for a ride or something and show him that this young 'un knows a thing or two about hot rods! Watching this one.

 

Just a fantastic story with real ups and downs. You are to be commended for sticking with the task of bringing the deuce coupe back to life. Good luck with it!

 

Hey Matt Glad to see you put this post on here because most people would not believe it if it wasn't for the pictures. You have your work cut out for you but I know you can do it. I know you will do your grandpa (Roger) proud. He may not know it but he is one of my biggest hero's. GOOD LUCK Rick

 

An inertia switch wouldn't have helped here with the mechanical fuel pump.

In most cases one side at a time would have been a better idea, but since we didn't really have much "good" sheet metal left, and we are replacing almost everything, cutting off both sides and making everything fit MIGHT be the best way to go.... Either way we'll make it work.

Thats a cool story with uncool set-backs.But even cooler than the story is that you are rebuilding your granpas ride.Good luck with the project!

 

I guess it's time for an update. Been spending some serious time on the coupe recently with a little employment change..... I'll let the pictures speak for themselves!









The body is tack welded together, the doors fit, and the rumble lid now fits.... More updates soon too come.

The car looks great! I'm so glad that this story is getting a happy ending. It was a miracle in itself that your Grandpa and cousin escaped injury in a crash that could have easily been life ending. It would be great if we could buy a '32 tank with a safety bladder in them but since the tank is on the small side already I'm sure the capacity would be reduced even more but it would be a nice safety feature. I spend a lot of time watching my rear view mirror when I'm in mine!
