my friend has a nice '57 belair 4-door. 30,000 miles and in 95% shape. it has the "gold" trim but only the standard 283 2 brl carb and no powerpack heads so how were they optioned out? didn't the belair "gold" have the powerpack engine??
Belairs had Gold trim. 210s & 150s had chrome trim. It had nothing to do with a powerpack option. Pat
Bel Air's had gold V's on the trunk and hood, and gold louvers on the front fenders. The "Bel Air" scripts on the rear 1/4 flashes were also gold.
The rare emblems are the 6cyl Bel Air emblems that are a gold bezel around the crest on the hood and trunk. (instead of the V's) I'm sure they are being re-popped now though. Mine is a Bel Air but I'm putting chrome trim on it to replace the gold because I think it looks gay.
True! The 265 was the baseline V-8, if the car had a stick; the 283 was optional with a stick. Powerglides and Turboglides all got the 283, and all 4 barrel, dual four barrel, FI engines were 283's. Lots of guys thought they had a 283, when they in reality, they had a 265. Butch/56sedandelivery.
Amen Butch--and I recall some of the 265's were painted yellow-lots of 210's had 265's with 2 bbl carbs
