    No worries,

Racing it in the SAAB I believe, I'll have to check for Max speed though the fact the head is off doesn't bode well for a result. My memory says 94mph but that's not gospel. SAAB made a two cylinder version too.

    Cheers,
    Rob

EDIT: I made another post but then ditched it by mistake. They ran 115odd mph today and ar ein impound for tomorrow am. This after setting a new record today of 109mph and change. Apparently they lost a ram tube, leaned out and lost a piston, hence the head being off. They had another engine and this is in the car now. It's in a SAAB Sonnett and Google will show you a pic. Then engine is a SAAB 850cc sleeved down to 750cc to run in J/GT

  3. As usual, great coverage. I know it is a lot of work posting such a comprehensive report, it is appreciated. What a fine way to spend an evening, thanks. -H.R.D-

Goddamn, and I who set to go to March meet next year, now I need to re-think my decisions.
Absolutely beautiful pictures which captures the magic on the salt. LOVE the sunset and sunrise pictures, almost spritual.

My dad's side of the family is from Ely. I spent a lot of time during vacations growing up at my grandmas house that was close to the train tracks. She owned the health food store in town. I used to see those old trains pass by. Since my grandparents passed I haven't gone back. Beautiful area of NV.

Mazooma1 knows how to take nice automotive photos, notice no artsy close up shots of tail lights and hood ornaments.

15 someodd pages of incredible photos, the citadel, the train, but man, this one takes the cake. Beautiful work Doug.
Some day I gotta go but its gotta be the way I want it. In a roadster, down through Idaho Montana and Wyoming, and with my daughter. Someday...

I only drove a little over six hours yesterday and I was thrashed, too.
I'm soooo glad you made it with your son.
I never get a chance to chit-chat with anyone because I'm so intense on shooting out there but at least we had a few minutes to get caught up....
I can't wait to see your photos...!!!!!!!!!

well....I've had a lot of time and miles to think about this...
It's not the thought of someone who all of a sudden envisions a new invention or comes to a moment of some spiritual awakening...
    Just a thought:

Bonneville is in a league all by itself.
I've been to Los Angeles Roadster Show....and to the Grand National Roadster Show....and the March Meet and the California Hot Rod Reunion...and, and, and...
    And....they are all terrific.
But Bonneville is the Woodstock...the Holy Grail....the PLACE....Ground Zero for everything in the hot rod World wrapped into ONE.
It's cars, speed, competition, people, old friends, new friends, the smells, the sounds, the sunrises and sunsets...the records falling, the failures, the upsets, the heartache, the victories...
It's the salt getting into everything and every place....it's Heaven for most and Hell for the few.
But even the ones who experience the Hell would come again and would never have wished that they didn't make the attempt for a better day.
Bonneville is not any one thing. It is everything.
It is everything that you make it mixed with everything that could be thrown into the stew by powers out of your control.
It is the Place and the Capitol of all things "hot rod"....
It is, in one giant nutshell, the total embodiment of HOT ROD.
Each and every other "car" event are mere satellites circling Bonneville.
The other events orbit but will never BE the "center"....never have the merit or soul of Bonneville.
It just is what it is....undefinable and just elusive to simple everyday adjectives.

    If you have been...you know.
If you have not....you need to go. You shouldn't just go.
    You must go.

    It is hot rodding.
Nothing else will ever hold a candle to it.

    So...2013........you in?

Great photos, Doug -- Thank You!

Somehow, I still didn't get to meet you. I'm very sorry that we didn't catch you at some point over the weekend. We stopped for sunrise on the salt on Monday morning and had to hit the road.

    Digital wonderfulness!
    Thanks a million for posting!

  29. Thank you, Doug. Your thoughts about the Salt are right on. It is the high cathedral of automotive excellence. Of course your pics are amazing. You have the technique down for sure. But the true key is that you know what to take pics of. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

    See you there in 2013.

  30. Well said Doug and well taken observations through your lens, great job as usual......
