guys, here are some pics from this past saturday and sunday out on the slat flats. i wont bore you with all of my 400 + pics i took, but here are a few of some HAMB members rides.... and the link to all my pics. this was my first trip and it was a blast. flew in to salt lake city on friday, got the rental car, and drove the 120 miles west to wendover. stayed at the Peppermill friday, saturday and sunday, then back to salt lake city on monday, then back home to south florida on tuesday. i want to thank you guys for all the tips and tricks that made my trip more enjoyable.... like power washing the rental every night at the car wash behind smiths market, and duct taping garbage bags to the floor boards, etc... wish i knew the guys names in these pics, but i recognized the cars here on the HAMB. i do know the old ford truck is tim's, and i wanted to walk up and meet him, but he was in line and getting ready for his run, so i didnt want to bother him... enjoy.
The great Bonneville photos just keep rolling in...thanks to all of you who took the time to post, for those of us who couldn't make it, really appreciate it!!!
thanks guys.. yea, i love tim's truck.... and Tman, looking at some of your pics, it seems we might have been standing side by side at times on the start line. is there a site where there are postings of all the racers speeds ? thanks again guys
oh yea, the #911 roadster gave me goose bumps on my entire body when he fired it up....reminds me of the NHRA fuelers... in the coming days i will post the videos of what i took.
for run results check at: scta-bni.org .... just heard that last year's record setting roadster #911 threw a rod at Mile 3 at 294 MPH with two miles to go! Monday ?
ok guys, here are the first 4 videos from last weekend that i had time to download. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEG8VcOI5zY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw2JyzvZcGY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YvC94NJ3X4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw7C-2zvCyc&feature=youtu.be in the first video, of the #911 roadster, i was talking to the mechanic before hand, and he said it was running on 20% nitro. correct me if im wrong, they start them on gas, then "turn on" the nitro after its started ? i notice at the 1:00 mark, the guy turns a valve on, or off, on the pressurized tank that is besides the car, connected to the engine. what exactly is in the tank, and how did that get the nitro flowing ? thanks, and i will post more vids, probably this weekend, when i get time to download them.
Thanks for posting the starting line vids. I went to speed week in 2010, but never made it to the starting line.
57 3100 - Thanks for videos - to get more info on starting, running, etc at Bonneville check with the guys that built & run the 911 Roadster: vhrcustoms.com that has a video on their site showing the view from cockpit area during a run - in Chico, CA - Vintage Hot Rods Design and Fabrication.
thanks... i have e-mailed them with the question about the nitro... i will post the answer when i get it. here are a couple more videos i downloaded.... this one is of mctim64's truck starting and going down the track.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4FehCQB_ek&feature=youtu.be and these guys were trying to set a record in the vintage 1300cc class running twin 650cc motors...... from the 50's.... cant remember which brand they were. the salt got my brain them two days out there... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtpmdHZGpWc&feature=youtu.be
ok guys, i e-mailed the #911 roadster for an explanation on how they get it started, and here is what John wrote... Thanks for the interest Leonard First I squirt some pump gas into the hat to get her started and then the canister you see is alcohol under 40 lbs. of pressure and tied into a quick disconnect. Once we are ready I nod to the driver to turn on the fuel pump and then she starts banging. Now I can pull off the alky pressure line and we are ready to rock. We are running 70% and I have the barrel valve pretty rich so she has the fuel on demand when she pulls away from the truck with those tall gears. This is the fastest roadster on the planet having gone 304 mph , this week we kicked the rods out on the first run. She was at 294mph when she let go and Dave was only feeding her 55% throttle. Regards , John Beck
Thanks for posting the pix and the complements on the truck. We're a ways off from the record in our class but we have fun every year trying to get the speeds up. We did 15 mph better than last year so we'll see what next year holds. Cheers!
anytime tim, and good luck next year.. hopefully i can make it out again. now i want a salt car/truck. lol....

My Dad and I spent pretty much all day Wednesday and Thursday at the starting line. We found it more interesting than sitting down at the other end of the track.
