My Deuces Make The Move To Arizona

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by vintagehotrods, Aug 12, 2012.

  1. I finally checked off one more thing off my "to do" list this week when I moved of all of my old cars to my new home in Prescott, AZ this week. It was a week that I worried about the weather and most everything else that could go wrong in the 1430 trek miles across the country. After spending the past few weeks in 100 degree heat and humidity at my storage building near Sioux Falls, South Dakota getting all of them running again after sitting for two years or more I was ready to go. After freshening up the gas and buying three new batteries and two more borrowed from my friends they all came back to life. I loaded my '32 Cabriolet and Fordor bodies in my trailer for the trip down but I still have to bring the Tudor down on the next time. The trip was a lot of fun with lots of lookers, people slowing to take pictures, some almost running off the road and questions like "Where did you find all of these? Everything went great and we had no problems. My transport driver, Josh was great and we stayed together almost all the way down except for when he would pull me on the climbs on I-40 west. Although it took a while to find the right company, Hasselbring Auto Transport of St. Cloud, MN, it was worth the wait for the right price and great service. The funny thing was that I found them when we happened to be in downtown Sioux Falls last week after eating at the Phillips Avenue Diner. I saw Josh and his truck stop for the light at 10th Street, so I ran up and got the name and phone number off the truck before the light turned green. A call to the company quickly arranged the trip and a week later we loaded up on Tuesday morning and hit the road early in the afternoon. We made Dodge City, Kansas by 1:00 AM and the next day we made it to Holbrook, Arizona just before Josh ran out of DOT allowed driving time. On Thursday we pulled into Prescott at 11:00 AM to unload. It's nice to have them all my old Fords here where I can see them again. Many thanks to my good friends on both ends of the country that helped me load and unload them. Now all I have to do is bring another semi load of equipment and parts down next once my shop is built. I haven't been on the HAMB much the last two years due to the move and building the house but I'm glad that I'm back and enjoying my old cars again!

collection in one trip - nice that the weather cooperated too

Nice to see the driver did not exceed his allotted daily driving time

Damn Jerry! I guess this explains why you are not on the Salt this year! I would've wrecked no doubt if I saw your rig headed westbound. Best of luck at your new place. -Matt

Wow! The most rods I've ever had at one time was 3. I thought it was a pain to make sure each was driven regularly. Now I'm down to 2 so I just trade off each week. I can't imagine having to deal with that many. Nice collection.

Wow, awesome. If that rig passed me on the highway I would end up wrecking trying to comprehend what just went by.

I lived in Prescott Valley, Az in 81. Loved the area. check out Jerome when you get a chance on the old road. Nice cars.

  13. What an awesome collection of cars! If I saw that transporter on the freeway, I would have had a heart attack. You don't see that kind of stuff everyday.

I have always hoped that whenever somebody moves into my neighborhood I would see a line-up of hotrods like that in the street. Did any of the new neighbors come by and check out all the cars?

Welcome to Az! Just made the move myself from Mi. in May. I'm your "neighbor" here in Kingman about 150mi away. Alot of car happenings in Prescott (make sure you pronounce it right, "Pres-kit").
I only moved 2 cars a 57 Ford & a 79 Ranchero but the driver said he got the same reactions from people on the trip. Guy that lives nearby even wanted to buy the 57.
