Anyone recognize this? Apparently a show car in Northern Calif., shown at Oakland Roadster Show, now in Don Orosco's collection, he plans to restore it to its former glory

I was thinking this was the Mike Hemus car, but now I dont think it is. Headlights are different, windshield is chopped, couple other differences.
That thing is going to be too freakin' cool when it hits the streets! A roadster pickup, a small-block, a 4-speed, and smooth Halibrands. What's not to like?
I think the long bed looks kind of "funky". When you look at the "back-in-the-day" pics, the majority of rpu's had long beds. Certainly you need more bed after the wheel than before. Beds that are 50/50 don't look nearly as good as beds that are 40/60 (ie having a longer bed after the wheel than before it). I just spent another 2c. I've been trying to sell my coupe, to fund other things, and see a rpu as the next alternative to house my hot rod parts.
Thing is, I agree with you! I really wanted to run this with the full length of the bed intact. But here is the deal, see it's actually a "T" bed on an "A" truck with the body slid back 2 1/4" to keep the small block out of the fire wall. See the "T" bed is the length as the "A", but the "T" fenderwells are 2 1/4" farther forward. The rest hangs out the back. I haven't shown a rear three quarters view of the truck anywhere here yet 'cause it has this front three quarters I love, a side on profile veiw I love, then the rear three quarters looks all "wonkey"... Kinda like an old Volksrod, the right stuff, just too much of it in the wrong place! I am 99.9% sure a bed clip is going to solve this one awkward angle. It's gonna hurt a bit, but i think in the long run not too much will improve and be subtle.
Well you got me on that one - I didn't pick up on the fact that the body had been slipped back at all. Bitchin modification. Why not print out your picture of the car at side view, and chop up the pictures to represent various degrees of shortening of the rear of the bed. Perhaps you could photoshop the car, and post them here. my 2c worth - shorten it say 3" - stuble shortening, length remains, and hopefully the rear 3/4 view fixed. Now if I were to build a rpu, I need it on 32 rails, maybe with the body back 2", and the front crossmember forward 2", that'll fit in the Stovebolt mill. The bed would have "T" proportions, and be longer after the rear end than in front of it.
I remember that from its magazine feature. Very untypical proportions, but with the fire engine striping it really worked. I hope it gets well restored!
I posted a pic of mine under construction ......here are a couple of it finished......just over 10,000 miles on it now, 2 trips to CA, one more big trip this summer yet...built to drive ! Dale
I already did the photoshop deal with the shortening. ayoung guy from England actually did the 'shop work for me. We looked at 4" and 6" and I think 6" is gonna be the winner. It's still gonna work out to be a shorter front than back (which by the way, I consider ultra important too) but more like 45/55... I'll see if I can figure out where in this computer I stuffed the photoshopped photo.
