I'll bet someone out there knows...First four speed for GM was in 57?
Was the fact that big motors went in front of 3 speeds a lack of availability of decent four speeds, or corporate oversight/nearsightedness.

I tried this with mine when he was 17-18. He's 41 now. He thought I was stupid, and couldn't teach him anything he could use. He informed me when he was 18 that the state allowed him to quit school if he wanted to, so he did.
So now he's a day laborer, doing whatever kind of odd job he can get to make a little money.Now he thinks I'm a lot smarter than he originally gave me credit for.
The good thing to come from this is that mymostamazinggranddaughter is determined not to grow up like her parents.....Graduated top ten percent of her high school class.
Whatever you do, however you can, make teaching your kids fun for them. It is way too easy to loose them. Lecture over, thanks for indulging me....

I don't think he said it was new when he had it. Lots of '61's wound up with 327's.
