corey eubanks son of bob eubanks (newlywed game host) was the main stunt (jump) driver of the genereal lees he jumped one acouple years ago on some anniversary for aworld record jumped it over the original unrestored first roscoe cruiser like in alot of the opening segments on the tv show

Wow I took a photo of that car today, in Christchurch New Zealand. It doesnt look like that anymore but does still have the turtledeck and registration papers back to the 60s.

I was walking down the street last night, heard a sound I haven't heard for a LONG time, 2 1/2" turbos with no tailpipes on a rumpty small block. I immediately thought of this thread, guys that weren't around in the seventies will be wondering why. In this day and age of Dynomax this and magnaflow that, I'd almost forgotten just how good 2 1/2" turbos with no tailpipes sound.

 

Better tell em you mean 2 1/2 "INCH" Corvair Turbo Muffs, or they'll likely think of something else. I myself had to read the whole thing before getting it

Damn, I knew ZZTop was always into the car scene. Looks like pre-Eliminator, Cadzilla years were pretty interesting...

Been a fan from the start, glad they replaced the chick drummer with Frank Beard, though, that's when they really took off!

 

Hey I've been there. I left the area and landed back here in '71.

Thrush steel packs was the deal here. I think they were like 11 bucks apiece. Real common on an early '60s chevy was that they dumped right about the back of the front seat and if you were stuck in the back you sounded like an alien when you talked.

Used to cruise in my little brothers '64 Chevelle and whenever I crawled in the back (for whatever reason) when the sucker would go into resonance my favorite line was "Don't be afraid, take me to your leader." I could always see Dennis smiling in the mirror when I said it.

 

The Thrushs and Big Daddys were hot till around '72, seemed like within a bout a year EVERYBODY was running turbos. It was the car guy sound track of the seventies around here.

 

Things move pretty slow here.

 

Thrush header mufflers were the rage. An older (probably 30 at the time) parts counter guy tipped me off to the Corvair turbo mufflers (Walker 21348 IIRC). These were the original turbo mufflers, before everyone got in the game. Sweet music from a BBC.

 

Yea, the real Corvair turbos sounded especially sweet on solid lifter motors. Maybe I need to hunt up a set for my chevy II.

 

If that's the right number, it's still available and fits a Saturn. Seems like those would have a smaller inlet size than you'd want for a hot engine though.

Come to think of it, I ran that # sometime a while back, and it did show up, but not for a turbo Corvair. The originals were 2 1/2" in & out. Walker may have recycled the # since the Corvair's been dead for so long. That, or my memory is fully out to lunch.
