What kind of car is this?

Friend snapped some pics of this car on the highway:

 

It's a custom car.

Looks like a "Special" a sports rod made from bits and pieces. Notice the back fenders look like pickup units?

'59 Star Chief or Bonneville at that. Could be anything underneath that tinwork.

Dog Bone radiator cap used as a gas cap.

 

It may be a 50 something hand built sports racer that someone (customized) in the early 60's It could be pretty interesting if it was put back in the trim it was originally built with.

I wish he had taken a couple of shots from the front.

from the looks of the exhaust pipes it was powered by one of those experimental NASA V-5's

btw if you look just above the rightmost exhaust tip, you can see the top of the hole for the missing sixth tip.

I would guess an Audi it has 5 tail pipes and I think that they are the only company making a 5 cylinder.

A custom sports car of some sort, the workmanship looks pretty good from here.

Yeah, after seeing the better picture right above, you can see the hole (barely) for the sixth pipe. Very cool ride, whatever it is!

Someone says the steering wheel is a Grant??? No way. It looks more like it's off an old late '50s Chevy, if anything, assuming it's a production and not an aftermarket wheel.

Wheel pattern looks like a Ford 5-on-5", perhaps 5-on-5-1/2"???

I wasn't aware that GM was building a 5 cylinder, I knew that Audi did and I have also heard of a mercedes with an odd ball as well ( 5 ot 7 ). But I was not aware that GM was building one.

I don't know if it is an allusion because of the angle of the pics but it looks to be a pretty big car for a 2 seater.

 

late model mini SUV motor. I've never seen one in real life, but I've heard they exist.

This car looks VERY familiar somehow, but I can not place it. Seems it was in an old kustom magazine way back, with a red body and a red & white interior. Engine was a GMC 261. I'll be damned if i can remember where I know this car from, though!

Several modern vehicles with five cylinders - Audi, Mercedes-Benz (Diesel and gas), Dodge, M-B and Freightliner Sprinter vans, GM's Colorado pickup and others, Hummer H3; all too modern for his application. There are six exhaust holes on this car,anyway.
