During a "discussion" with one of my buddies, idea came around about metal flaking the roof of my '53 - which got me thinking....

I've seen several cars done up with metal flake roofs, little bit of flakes here and there on the body, but does anyone know why metal flake isn't used more often below a cars belt line?

Anyone have any pics of cars with flaked bodies but not tops?

Just curious... and yes I used the search function quite a bit before posting this.

I was thinking on a more traditional front, not low riders.

It's done on lowriders all the time. Overall it's just a matter of taste. In my opinion a little flake goes a long way. It should be used as an accent, like pinstriping, chrome, or gold. They all can look good in moderation, but when the whole car is covered it's usually too much.

I think if you were doing a crazy 60s show rod or a lowrider you may pull it off, but it just looks out of place on a traditional custom or hot rod.

...by the way, this is Liberace's car...so if that tells you anything.

I flaked my entire car. Lots of flake. Then one day, I accidently used dandruff shampoo when I was washing it and it ended up a solid colour. Go figure.

I think, its personal preference - but flaking below the beltline probably isn't done very often because... it doesnt really pop out as much. Flake wants the sun to hit it.

on the right car - maybe. Whats the build?

A late 30's race car inspired or gasser would be over the to enough to do it justice. Something with a lot of curvature to flash the flake.

The '53 Chevy on your profile? I'd suggest maroon pearl with a silver flake roof

  19. Hmmm, think I'll stick with the girl from the seedy part of town... I've seen a few strippers with lots of "flake" below the beltline...

I would love to see more pics of this car. It belonged to Jason Jessee I believe? regardless, I like that car a lot.
