I bought a 1950 olds club coupe with its original 303 and I want to put a 1956 324 in it... Is it compatible? Mounts? Tranny etc? Thank you
If you are using the 303 hydra-matic trans there will likely be some trans throttle pressure linkage and carb throttle linkage mods to do. Not difficult just fiddly. Found this as I have a '55 top end on my 303. Couple more things come to mind. If you are using a heater the hoses will re route no big deal. You need the 324 exhaust manifolds 303 are much smaller. The 324 right side has a funky horizontal outlet which will require exhaust pipe fab.
Stop before you buy Olds had 2 different A/T in 56 only. The 324 from a standard shift, as well as an A/T 324 that came from the cheapest base model 88 will have the pilot bushing that will fit your 50 trans, no matter if your car is stick or A/T. The 56 A/T in the better 88, and 98 will supposedly not have a crankshaft that is drilled for a pilot bushing. If the 324 is A/T : Look at the crank, or if it's still in the car, look to see if the shift indicator letters have a P for park. If it has no P you are OK, because it's the older trans.
I have a 50 Olds 88 club coupe i put a 55 Olds 324 & 55 hydramatic in the 50 Olds and still haven't got my rear mount problem solved used a 50 Olds cross member and tried 50 & 55 rear mounts on the 55 i have angle problems i was looking for a Hollander to check if 50 & 55 cross members a different if so a 55 cross member could be the cure i'm planning a trip to French lake in search of a 55 X so far no luck you might have the same problem for a bolt in i had a 50 Old hydramatic if i remember the tailshaft was shorter then the later 55 trans got the new mounts on ebay there compatible check list said the mounts are different from 50 to 55 so if you solve your problem let me know and i'll do the same
sorry...jumped the gun - was thinking engine only, not rear engine (tranny mounts). Don't listen to me, I drink.
The mounts are different depending on tranny ebing used the bell has different holes i ran into the same problem but i made a sold mount for now. I think you can just swap sides and drill the bottom hole in the mount and it will work From what i could see but decided quick and easy
If using 50 hydro a 324 is direct bolt in except for ex manifolds as said...... Also make sure your 56 crank is drilled for a pilot bushing the same as your 50.......2 different cranks in 56....some are some aren't Tony
