heres mine, i have such mad fabricationg skills.

broke the handle on my B&M shifter so I did what any red blooded American would do..........used a come along handle.

 

a traditional one...

 

For my Deuce.

 

Looking pretty eclectic with that come-along handle and modern steering wheel. I think you may need a make-over soon...

all metal "Hand Carved".............yes, the 7075 Aircraft Grade aluminum piston is carved with a knife

 

no pics of mine yet... but maybe you can picture it... it's a .999 silver Lafayette silver dollar ( busts of George Washington & General Lafayette side ) set into the top of a lathe turned brass flat top shift knob... looks pretty cool in my Nash Lafayette... gotten a lot of compliments on it... it'll have to find it's way to a camera one of these days...

FYI... this is a Lafayette dollar... the one I used is a bullion commemoritive

That one reminds me that back in the 50's, they used to give little turtles away at fairs, etc., many times with painted carapaces. My brother had one & it disappeared in the house one day. He was devastated. Five years later, when my dad was replacing the wall to wall rug, there he was..petrified & very flat. He would have been a good candidate for a resin job.

 

What do you guys use to sculpt the skeleton heads and wierdos? Clay?

So the 8ball is painted wood? (I am sure the wrench is glued in somehow.. it is amazing how smooth of a finish that he gets..

Not NEARLY as cool as anything y'all have already shared, but since you asked...

I've been wanting a unique, 1-off knob, but I couldn't really find anything that grabbed me. So I started playing around with an old Hurst 3-speed knob I had, and this is what I came up with. I'm fairly happy with the finished product, so I guess I'll share.

I used my bench grinder as a sort of a lathe, by threading the knob onto the closed end of a large wire nut, then threading the open end of the wire nut onto the spindle on one side of the grinder. I got the knob spinning straight and used a rasp to shape it. Then sand paper to smooth it.

I popped out the shift pattern indicator and painted the iris (there's actually 6 colors layered in there) and the veins on either side. Once it was dry I dipped the knob into a shallow bowl of 2-part clear casting resin, then turned it upright and filled in the lens of the eyeball until it leveled off. It was kind of neat watching it gain some depth and dimension. 12 hours later, it's set up enough to take pics, and tomorrow my new Hurst three-speed shifter with new knob will get installed into the old '53.

I know it isn't as cool as most of the other knobs that have been shared, but I kinda like my new shift knob, mostly because I know it's the only one. My wife hates this knob. She says it creeps her out.

 

I think it's awesome ... can I commission one to match my real eye?

OK, here's one I'm going to be using on my column shifted '51 Chevy. I found this cast iron tool handle in my grandpa's tool shed on his farm after he passed. I think it could have been a file handle but, who knows, coming from a farm. I threaded the end and then chucked it in the lathe to smooth the outside surface. Then I sent it out to be chromed.

 

You got it! LOL The 8 is a coin I had laser engraved out of plastic.
