Man, I'd almost forgotten that movie.

I had a yellow VW convertible like the one Rose had.

    Sorry.....

"Gimme two chili dogs and a coke". Jeez-why does that insignificant line of dialoge stick with me?

In 1973 the studio sold the car. It had a 427 with a 4 speed. I still have a copy of the ad from the LA times.

It might be possible. While researching the ABAR Camaro (I'm building a semi-clone) I came across some info about the filming. It listed October '73 as the start date for filming. Even though the move is copyrighted/released in 1975 it would not be unusual on a low budget effort for post production to take a while.

The car has some time in the beginning of the movie at Bobby's uncle's car lot.

The car (Camaro) is "restored" last time I saw it. It was for sale on EBay with a small block and Webers, that was 7 ? years ago, thereabout.

I think you are on to something here, it was probably 75 -76 as I think more about it.

YES, as that's about the time I tried to buy it off a car lot in the Pasadena area(?). Fun times.

Rick, I have to agree with you. The smart thing to do would be leave my Z alone and buy yours. When it comes to cutting up cars though my smarts usually lose out to my sawzall.

Thanks for the photos. I've included one of yours here. It looks like a good one.

  25. First Starring Role for Paul Le MAt? Would't that have been AG, as it came out tow years earlier, and certainly Milner is one of the Stars of AG!

it was a 67 with updated 68 front sheet metal, but doubtful that it was one of the 602 67 Z28's. Seems I read a while back when it was for sale that the VIN was decoded and it was not a Z28 (which is also what the guy who had it for 10+ years has stated) but I won't swear to it.

I'm pretty sure the Red Car NEVER had a big block in it. It had a 302 at the time of the filming. It went to the below listed dealer to be sold by them for the studio, but they ended up keeping it for 10 years.

That car lot was called Performance Classics and was in Eagle Rock, CA. Dave Miller, the guy who owned the lot kept the car for about 10 years. He leased it to a friend, and he and his pals repainted it and put in an Enderle injected SBC. It took first place at a big car show in Fresno, 8 foot tall trophy. Then it was featured in Super Chevy or Popular Hot Rodding, and a cover car on Car Craft, all in the mid 80's. It sold cheap in 1986 at an auction in the bay area. Rumor was that Reggie Jackson bought it, It was then on Ebay in 2004, now with Webers on the car. It was said that Paul leMat bought it, but I have never confirmed that.

this car was in the movie also that was the word around town. it was owned buy a guy who also owned the local hertz rentacar in santa maria ,ca. the car was a dark navy blue. a local custom painter had the car and would take it to car shows. he redid it to this after a couple years.

I remember that car on the cover of Hot Rod or Car Craft for an article titled "Highway Flyers". I still have it somewhere.

I started a thread on The Roaring Season website about the Bobby And Rose Camaro because I didn't think it would be suitable for here, and because I've held a long fascination with the car but knew little about it. One of the members there, Jon Mello, knows quite a lot about the car as it was his friend Dave Miller who owned Performance Classics, in CA, where the production company sent the car to be sold after filming was finished. "Hotrodding" has quoted some of what Jon said above in post #55.

Basically the Bobby And Rose Camaro was built by Dan McLaughlin, who specialised in making fibreglass panels for racing Porsches in the '70s. McLaughlin had bought out the old American International Racers name and (I think) building off actor James Garner, who built and raced Corvettes in the late '60s, and also raced Lola T70 MkIII coupes. Thats why some people thought it was Garners team who built the Bobby And Rose Camaro for the film.

McLaughlin also built another wild Camaro which I believe is the car above in post #57, and also appears earlier in this thread, painted either black or very dark blue. And there was possibly a third car made also.

    Hope that helps a little.

Some drag racing scenes involving Don "The Snake" and a descent sound track to boot. I believe the guy who owns the original Graffiti coupe also owns the Aloha '68 Camaro.

American Graffiti wasn't promoted as "Starring Paul Le Mat " because nobody had ever heard of him. Aloha Bobby and Rose was the first movie where Paul got top billing.
