Yes that place is very cool. You need to give your self plenty of time to see everything they have. The Relex have a show there every year its a good time to check it out.

Thanks for all the time and effort to let us view this collection. My half dozen seems like such a puny amount now. But I did have them attached to cars that I've sold.
Sadly no one can put one of these on a car and leave it for a minute anyplace except in a locked garage.

Everytime I get on this HAMB site I leave with a smile. From what I remember it's almost as good as having sex!:D

Ditto...... I feel humbled to post a picture of a hood ornament I have had for a long time.

Bought it at a flea market years ago for $8.

Found out from another HAMBer it came off of a 1932 Nash.

What an amazing collection! Thanks for posting.

I got this about 30 years ago at an antique flea market.
It has served as a paperweight, picture frame (I had my kids in the circle where the eyeball is now) and finally it's going on my '29!

I did some research and it was an aftermarket item available in the 1930s.

the Gilmore is an awesome place, and holds many many different shows all year. Well worth the trip to see it.

Really nice grounds, many buildings with SOO many cars.

  19. A local antique dealer owes me a dancing devil hood ornament. He conveniently misplaced it after we traded some antiques back and forth.I'll bug him until I eventually get it.....

Not vintage or NEARLY as cool as anything shown, but here's one I've kinda been saving for some future project... probably ought to sell it so I can buy parts for my PRESENT project... haha.

    Really interesting stuff.
Makes you wonder what the story is behind the design of some of some of them.

I am sure like many others I have gone thru the pictures on this thread a few times.

Each time I look at the pictures many different thoughts come to mind.

Here we are looking at these hood ornaments which span a period of time from the earliest days of automobiles to who knows when.

Obviously, hood ornaments were quite a popular accessory off & on throughout time..... More so I would guess-timate in the '20's -30's?????

Hood ornaments are extinct..... BUT.... ever since whatever "rapper" started hanging them around their neck they have become something that has become an item for thieves to steal. Can you imagine how long one of these hood ornaments from the past would last in a Wal Mart parking lot????

Another thought is ..... here is a collection of things "from days gone by" ..... which makes me wonder how many of the things hot rodders are doing today that will also be looked at 100 years from now and people will say "they actually did that back then"..... ha!!!!

Thanks again Kirk for starting such an interesting thread & taking the time to post all of the pictures.
