Olds finned valve covers lets see them

Thinking about putting Olds aluminum finned valve covers on the 55 Olds 324 motor

it's going in the 50 Olds 88 coupe
lets see some vintage Olds covers Thanks

Nice, I have some Edelbrock ones but no pics, like the Hildebrant's but they are hard (and $$$) to get. There is a guy on Ebay does re-usable gaskets for theses enines too, I think if I were using one in an open car I would swap between a couple of sets from time to time to keep things interesting ) 50 Coupes are cool too.....

 

I don't have any finned cover pictures to share with you, but...

If you do decide to put finned covers on, I'd be interested in buying your stock ones.

 

Offenhauser on a '65 425. Does that count?

I really love the stock "Rocket" valve covers on the earlier motors though.

Paul, That set of Fenton's really appeals to me. I'm a sucker for understated... I like that there's no name cast into them.

Louie, On the other hand, I really like that Hildebrandt too. The bumps for the rocker arms look cool!

 

My "convertible" Weiand VCs as I got them drilled for the Olds but then I added the holes for them to work on my Studebaker.

update - went with Moon valve covers in Washington they should be here in a few days

 

Not finned but smooth cast search curbspeed Gotha valve covers.
Early Fenton script covers had name upside down, I think to fit early pre 303 prototype.
Also have seen here custom covers, Clark and Rocket

 

Fenton also cast some covers with the "Fenton" logo, but when installed on the engine, it was upside down.

Thanks also to Paul whose picture of "no-name" finned valve covers identified the pair I have as "Fenton". They're going to be installed in my 1950 Olds 88 coupe running a 1953 Rocket block and 1955 heads.

My covers have tiny cracks radiating away from the two holes in each cover. Best to leave 'em alone, use as is, or fix 'em?

If you would fix 'em, what's the best way: rubber or neoprene washers in conjunction with metal washers? or possibly J-B Weld? or should they have the cracks welded up?

I have a set of what i think are fentons also, but the have little plug wire looms on them.

and a pic of some Gothas, not mine, just a pic i have.

 

finally made a decision
was going to get a pair of nicely aged Offenhauser's
holes were drilled for breathers a pair of new Offy breathers was $190 +

went with the Moons no breathers

got Mooned
my valve covers came from California today


opened up the 324 for the 1st time since it was rebuilt


had to try them on

used the bolts that were in the stock covers

cleaning the firewall & painting it before the mill goes in
not going overboard on the frame painting this time around

 

Where's the oil from the rockers? Boy, that looks way too dry for my tastes....unless the engine has sat since last season?

 

F&J the motor was sitting for a few years when i bought it
plus a couple of years since i got it
i'll oil the cylinders spin it over when it's in the 50 Olds fire it up
with luck i'll get it in a month or sooner

saw an ad in last years hot rod mag for nice looking cast valve covers for 425 rocket. looked like a bargain at about 60 bones. I've also got a 425 (1967) and tranny that I'd trade for an 80's nissan sentra parts car. good luck

the Fentons with name are cool, but notice the script is upside down

the only heads I've seen with the square/round corners reversed were on pre-production heads..?

 

does anyone repop the 394 finned valve covers, I have never seen any offered for the 394 but I have seen others for smaller olds engines. what is so special about the 394 valve cover?

 

I just love the look of those Olds motors! Did Olds ever have factory aluminum covers for the 394s? I remember a 60 something Starfire with what I thought at the time were factory aluminum covers.
