Makin some progress... This was my first go at using a tube bender and flare tool. I got all the gauges and wire harness removed. The cab is now ready for body work. 70yr old factory paint!
Repaired front shackle hangers and started rebuilding the gauges. No one sells a replacement for the front hangers. The thread is not a real pitch or size so I had to make a cuting tool for the threads. I bored out the hangers and made a threaded bushing and silver soldered it in place.
That is looking great. I can't believe how little rust it had considering where it has spent it's life. How long was it off the road before you started on it?
Thanks! The truck sat in a barn for 6yrs on dirt/mud floor. When we brought it home we got it to run and drove it for about a 2 mile round trip to Dariy Queen and back. It sat in "dry" storage for another 24yrs after that.
Still making progress on this. I got the engine running! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCfhw7DXOJw How it looks now.
If you ever deci hotrod it, here's a good ezample to go by. Fatman front end and a complete SBC drivetrain.
I will buy another one to hod rod. That is a sharp truck I am just not big on cross breeds. It will be powered by something mopar.
Just saw this thread today. I have a '42 FARGO 1/2 ton p/u. Great trucks. Did my amateur restore when I was younger and poorer. Will re-do one day (Anything I did has stood the test of time. Anything I paid for has not!). You should really check out: [email protected] for a wealth of info, tips, and tricks. Great photo album as well.
