After media blasting the cab was delivered to me for complete rework of the original metal work that was previously undertaken by an unknown source to myself. The worst areas are as noted; Roof section overlapped and remains of fiberglass still evident even after media blast. Visor fully welly into the roof. Different rear end welded onto body. Miss-alignment of 'A'/'B" posts on roof chop conversion. Yet to check status of the door alignment. Bad welding/distorted panels,on every panel. see the photos below. my metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com .
how should i answer that? In true American spirit ....i was born ready! yep its pretty ugly ! we can make it beautiful again with some work. my metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
a monument to those who know not clearly how to do stuff... A good rewarding project i look forward to the other end the better finished one
Can't wait to see your work on this one Jon!! Thanks for continuing to post I really enjoy and get a lot of info out of your posts.
You gotten started yet? It looks like a great project and it couldn't be in better hands. How about showin us where you chose to start and why - there is lots of starting points on that body and the process that you go thru to choose the right place would be nice to share.
..i know where I'd start on it..interested to see how you approach it. Should be a very cool coupe when your done. subscribed
Photos showing overlapped and Mig welded roof insert panel followed with a good helping of bondo. Apart from the crease in the centre of the roof panel the overall shape was good ,so worth saving the roof insert and converting to a butt joint and metal finished. my weekly metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
Overlapped panels cut through the centre of the Mig weld.Excess material removed from underneath.Overlapped material now butt jointed.Tacked and Tig welded followed by metal finishing.Left hand roof section completed. my weekly metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
haha unfortunately i cant give up my day job!.thanks! my weekly metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
I wish i could just win the lottery so I could come out to bad ass Denver Co and apprentice with a guy like yourself for free! pick up some skillz, play in the mountains, meet some people. Is it sad that financial freedom would bring more work on my end? (I would work harder if I had more money) hahaha, Car looks really good, I just don't know how you fix the warpage on a flat panel like that without over stretching things and things
I love Colorado, I just may have to take you up on that....Im putting a chunk of cash together now....
Progress on the roof rework.Forgot to mention there is 110hrs on the budget to complete the metalwork on the body for this project. The drip rail roof panel depression will be metal finished out at the customers request. my weekly metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
Now if you add in rusted in the bottom 6 to 8 inches of every panel, dents, missing garnishs, no floor or subrail set, you'd have what we mostly get offered here in Australia by the importers as good condition "Needs the usual lower sections" Look forwards to watching this progress. Mark Shearer
I'm only $60 per hour ,think that's pretty reasonable. My weekly metalwork blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
very reasonable, incredibly reasonable for level of workmanship, thats not the problem, the problem is my car needs over 500 hours of work lol but thanks so much for coming to see the project
Alrighty, After playing with the 39' Ford Fender that I've posted on the HAMB, I have been moved forward to help finish up this little Coupe. So far I have gone through and fixed the chop on drivers side rear, Here are some photos of it. I first took the MIG weld down with a stone inside/out, re-cut into the top with a cut-off wheel, TIG welded to two ends back together.
After TIG welding all areas back together I knocked the bead down and finish slapper/dolly/ filed out, As well as the seam patch that was put in by Jon from before. Here are some more finished pictures
After I finished up with the rear area there was a crack below the driver quarter window, I TIG welded that up and finished out that area defining the style line. Also fixed the bullet holes in the B-Pillars
After finishing the driver's side B pillar I moved over to the pass, side B Pillar and fixed that bullet hole. I then fixed the bullet holes on both sides, patching, TIG welding them in, and finishing both panels out. I will leave you with these pictures. There is more to come on this A so stay tuned!! Thanks,
