It says gasket SHIM. Is there a difference? Does it matter if a "shim" was previously installed????

"These Fel-Pro gaskets work with both cast iron and aluminum heads."

  7. 0.015 compressed thickness steel shim gaskets.
Yep, it matters. But you could save 3.00 and change.

I use used head gaskets sometime on SBC, but to buy some . . . I dont think so. If they're gonna sell them, they should sell them for like $1 . I still like Speedway Motors though.

Maybe they were put on the engine and not torqued, but they're a little oily or dirty? Can't imagine if they were torqued down that they'd offer them for resale.

Anyone got a used oil filter for cheap?

  13. There's been a whole bunch or used stuff for sale. Another thread about used and burnt headers too.

If you take into account clean up, repackaging, shipping & handling, well, there you are.
Would only be good for mock up or checking clearances.

BUT, would a pack of cardboard "mock up" "shims" (0.015 - .045 and in between, popular sizes) be something to have? Say five different thicknesses to check clearances, manifold alignment, anything that requires a sacrificial head gasket of the appropriate thickness to see what the other related measurements would be. Would not be considered as gaskets. Wouldn't work as gaskets. Strictly measuring devices. $10.00 per side, choice of 5 different thicknesses, $20.00 per engine. Sound good?

  20. I can hook you up with both and if you are real poor we could actually use condoms on the buddy plan, I'll use it then you can turn it inside out and use it when I'm done.

So this is mean but can we say this in 3 part harmoney? "Anything for a buck Bill."

Common fellas join in and sing along.

A shim gasket is a steel or copper gasket. It does not have the composite stuff wrapped around it. Steel shim gaskets were common on most cars up into the early '60s.

Yeah, I got the email about "6,000 garage sale items" too. I almost ordered the "used, installed" chrome drag link, but it was $49 and a new one was $69. Plus they didn't have a custom length for my tie rod. I passed and paid $19 at my local Ace for thinwall aluminum tubing that slid right over my tie rod and drag link. Much cheaper, and looks as nice.
