One of the fastest gassers in my neck of the woods back in the day was a 40 Willys with a big block Chevy. I guess it left a lasting impression because I still get excited when I see one today.
NO! Many of us liked other cars better - for me (other than my Blair's Anglia) it has to be Skipper's Critter.
i like all gassers but my favorites had stone woods and cooke on the doors and mainly had the shape of a 40-41 willys of them the medium blue one is the FAVORITE
Hey bud How come you don't accept PMs? What if I want to privately call you a bad name? Just pullin' your chain I only call people bad names in public [unless they are runde to me in private]. I wanted to write you about something last night late. I don't even recall what it was now, but it seemed important at the time.
I voted for 41 Willys.... But really if you know really know your gassers and Drag Racing. Then you know there is only one gasser that stands above the rest that really started things. Say what, well hell what true gasser is not altered? lol That thing speaks gasser to me.... If it truly set the stage for cars to come, then I think it qualifies as a gasser. I mean take another look at it!
It was a thing to behold, just not a thing of beauty. Even as a youngster it seemed odd to me but from an engineering standpoint it has it's merit. By the way I also picked the '41 Willys, the poll choices could have been refined and broadened some though.
It was cool and in a sense it could be called a gasser in that it ran on gas but it ran in altered class. It was not legal for gas coupe/sedan class. The thing that you have to remember is that before '64 nothing that didn't come with a beam axle was allowed to run one in gas class. The rules actually state no body or suspension lift to gain traction. Blah blah. Ah if you are interested I'll send you a copy of the '64 rules. I don't think the thread is about gas class rules and it doesn't seem to be defined by an era either.
voted 41 willys for me if i could only get my hands on a steel car? "big $$$$$$$$$" but I'm also partial to (others) as well!
