Here is a video of the bangers running a the Antique Nationals. Clark Crump in the blue coupe won the flathead class and LimeyNick won the overhead class in Cigar Larrys roadster pickup.

Hope, you buy one from that bad ass who posted two spots above you like I did!
    His name is Bill

  9. If you don't buy it, tell me where it is so I can.
    Should get you more power.
Won't blow gaskets if it's flat and installed properly, then retorqued several times.

  16. G'Day everyone

    I just bought another banger

It was advertised as an A, however has a fuel pump boss and the taller side cover so is likely a 32 or later

It has a front motor mount that extends out either side of the crank. Looks like pictures of a 34 banger front mount

However the bell housing has no provision for side mounts. All the ford bangers I have seen have had side mounts on the bell??

four bolt water pump on head

Any ideas what year it is ??

    It is frozen.
    Any pointers on freeing it?

My first step was going to be to stick it on an engine stand, pull the sump and side cover, and then fill the cylinders with a diesel/ATF mix

    I'll post photos

It could be stuck from being broken. Might as well take it apart, carefully.

'32 and later, the rear mount was on the rear of the transmission.

And if it's a Ford head with a 4 bolt pump, it is either a stock A head, or an A "police" head--which is slightly higher compression, and has a large B cast on top. At least the police heads had the B when they came from the factory---we used to grind the letter off so that the head looked like a stock A --sneaky cusses that we wuz--the little bit more compression helped--but not much.

Was checking out the pictures of a engine you posted It looks to have a ford V8 water pump. Which looks to me has a pulley that a fan mounts to it Where did he get it, or was it custom made?

    Thank You Mike

Pm your email address and I will see if I can get a better pic.
I know it has some custom looking parts between the had and the fan for sure.

Reddy it is a v8 water pump look at the alloy casting between the water pump and the head it is an adapter they should be available from Sac Vintage Ford.

  22. That looks like one we sold to Minnesota a few years back!?

I think he's asking about the pully/fan mount.

You are correct about it being the Spurgin Giovanine car. Here are some shot of it when it was getting ready for Pebble Beach.

The owner I got it from had it for about 20 years and brought it from CA.

  26. Thanks Herb

Every B I have seen here must of had an A bell housing swapped on then, because they have all had A style side mounts ??

I have only seen 3 or 4 in the flesh here in Australia, not real common

Here is the one I grabbed, should have put the link in my original post

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/28088918...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1203wt_1396

I haven't tried spinning it over yet

I figured I would let it soak for a few weeks first

Hopefully it is just frozen from rust etc

It will get a rebuild with inserts and a cross drilled crank
    Thomas head
    Wico mag
undecided yet on cam and lifters
also undecided on rods. Probably aftermarket with inserts

I also have a little (1500cc) S.C.o.T blower that MIGHT go onto it too
My theory is it would be Big enough to wake it up, without overloading the centre main.
Undecided if it will go on this banger, or just decorate the wall
My Thomas head has tiny crowsfoot style chambers, and I think getting the compression low enough to tolerate the small bower may be an issue
So I might need a different head to match with the blower setup, and stick the Thomas on one of my A Bangers

    I also have:
    Mac's bell housing from NZ
Crazydaddyo S10 4WD adapter for the torque tube
Halibrand 101 QC (first casting style, takes AR gizzards)

    I need a S10 4wd T5 (anyone help there??)

It's going into either my 22 T roadster (early 40's lakes style), or my 27 T roadster (late 40's C.R.A style) ........... both just piles of bits at present

Or it could sit for years waiting for me to stop fiddling with bikes and pickup trucks

  27. Update

Day time here, so I'm hooking in striping it, while you guys get a rest

    All good news sofar

Spotless inside the side cover. nice coat of old oil on everything. No rust or signs of broken bits

Same story inside the bottom when I pulled the sump. A small bit of sludgy water in the bottom, but no visible rust damage. Bottom of bores look fine

    Best bit ............ counterweighted crank

Dizzy is rusted internally, and frozen into it's hole ......so that may be why it won't turn over. I remember reading they do that. I will do a search on pulling a frozen dizzy, I know I saw a thread somewhere on that. Don't want to damage it.

Happy Camper ....... time for a beer :D

    Further Edit

Dizzy came out after a soak in ATF. Still frozen, but I will let it soak in kero for a week

Head popped with one whack from a rubber mallet

Bores are rust caked above the piston.

I will soak it in an ATF diesel mix for a week and then see if the bores clean up and the pistons will budge

Looks like a great B to start a build from ...... VERY happy camper now

  30. So LOWCAB and BHT8BALL,

Did the rebuild of the SB engine include using the Curtiss Jenny OX 5 connecting rods, or did it get something a little more tame?

(Stevie G and I are in the process of getting a good balance of crank throw, rod length, and pin height)
