Saving a 32 Ford Body

I cut the opeing and tacked in the new opening, I noticed I was oiff center 3/16 and had to recut. For some reason I meissed a picture here. Next a traced a the lower arch onto paper to make the lower lip.

 

Next I rolled the lip, this did not give me the correct bend so I worked the arch with a hammer and variuos homemade metal shaping tools to correct.

 

Here's a few close-ups of the dash ready for welding.

Sorry for the lack of updates not in the shop that much that past couple weeks

Bought a couple 4.5 -16 wheels and was given some 4.0 -16 wheels "Thanks Dizzie"

Here's the free ones.

 

Also went to Back to the 50's on Saturday and bought my wheels from Coker

 

Time for another update...

I've posted a couple picture of the left qtr patch panel as it lined up. notice the incorrect vertical door opening ling and the door opening bends.

Nice choice on the tires!! 7.50's and 5.00's? It coming along really nicely.

 

Sorry I did not take as many pictures here as I thought. I rebent the vertical body linea and filled the cut out in the patch panel.

 

I welded the inner lip of the patch on a tested the fit. Once I was comfortable I welded the panel I wheeled to the patch and then fitted the whole thing to the qtr.

I will do a better job of documenting this process (fitting the panel)on the right side.

 

Here's a few more shots, note that the rocker is not welded in yet.

Could use one 16 x 5" wheel. Any for sale?

I think the 4.5 I have are a little narrow for the rear.

Picked up one wheel yesterday from Dizzie.

 

4.5" are good for the rear....4" are even fine too. On my '35 I'm running 3.5" up front and 4" out back on huge 7.50 Lesters which are bigger then those.

Well I built my electrolysis bath for the wheels.

Here's a shot of the bath , the wheel after 3 days (lot's of wire wheeling to be done) and then after primer

 

A couple more updates...

I went ot Dizzies again(he gave me a pair of wheels ) and bought a few column drops. Loved the warm weather for pulling these.

Also I recieved my wood from Woodart, I will post as I fit , but I have aproblem with my left door post (the one a made from the junk parts I have. More on that later.

 

Less grass cutting time...more hot rod build time!

Here's a few shots of the install on the patch on the right side. Notice that I used a magic marker to create a surface that I can scratch a cut line on. I've found this to be more accurate method for making a cut line.

I laid the qtr patch over the qtr lined evry thing and sribed the cut line. The patch has a body reveal at the rear that is too wide so I cut thsi off and will tig it back on once the patch is in place.

Note that the rocker is in place and the doors are on, this allows me to get a good line set of body lines. I have also installed the cowl patch.

 

Once the cuts were made I tack the paenl in place to get a look at the gaps. Here's a few shots.
