  16. There is one at the corner of Beechnut and Loop 610 in Houston, must've been something back in the day. I imagine it looked a lot like the first one in this thread.

spent some time in Palm springs this winter and found this old "Space age" station that is still there. It's at the turn off to the Palm springs mountain tramway. Alot of vintage buildings and old stations still stand in this town.

Here are some more. The Magnolia station is also in Shamrock Tx. just a few blocks from the Conoco. Hackberry General store on old R 66 between Kingman and Seligman Az. Cool Springs is on old R 66 between Kingman and Oatman Az.

  22. We had an article in Newsday's (local newspaper..) Sunday color section maybe 25 years back with a good assortment of local old gas stations. One was close to me that was back from around 1930, great architecture... shortly after the article ran, it was razed for a new station, which in turn was razed maybe 10 years later for a new library... progress sucks.

Yes. Cloquet Minnesota. As a child I passed it at least once a week on our way to the family cabin in Northern minnesota. I haven't been back up there since about 1975 though, so I can't tell you if it still stands.

  24. A couple unique ones from days gone by in my old state of WA.

And a nice example of some more Googie architecture (in addition to the one posted in Palm Springs). Apparently this was originally intended to be part of LAX airport, but when it wasn't needed, they made a gas station out of it.

  25. There is still plenty of cool Mid Century architecture in Palm Springs. Hell they even build 50's style ranch homes there. Hit up Atomic Ranch on the net to see some cool stuff

  26. Thanks Garagedog, for some reason I couldn't get the picture to post. This place is even cooler in person. It is a shame they couldn't re-open the motel part (due to codes/accessability).

  27. abandoned station somewhere on the "blue hiways" in Colorado, Utah or Wyoming..

Cool thing about the Frank Loyd Wright station is that until about '72 or so, the hoses and pump equipment hung from the ceiling. The island you see in the pictures was added about that time and the more standard pumps came about then.
