If by special you mean a stock one. The finned ones fit fine with most aftermarket intakes, the stock intakes usually hit. Sometimes you can mill off enough though.
Russell Martin sells these on Ebay and says this is the only aluminum finned valley cover that can be used with the 66 Q-Jet intake!
Without modification should be in there... Those should be the Don Kring ones. http://buicknailheadspecialties.com/
Sure spacers will cure the problem and milling might make it useable but this engine is in a closed hood car not a yawning show car so its no big deal to use a stock valley cover. I'll take the valley cover to the next swap meet and bring back something else I can use.
Ok, niiice thread!! Puttin a stock dual quad 401 Nailhead in a Model A...limited radiator space. Z'd channeled etc...If I put the radiator over the crossmember it will only yield me 16 " tall core (plus tanks) What radiators and size etc are you guys using in the early cars with the Nailheads? dont want top run hot!
call Russ directly 530-272-1564 it'll be cheaper than eBay, no fees. http://www.centervilleautorepair.com/
Here is my 66 425. Factory dual quads and have the air cleaner too. The chrome valve covers are now on Titus's wall I think! Have a 364 flywheel setup in the classifieds too... Matt
Here are some better shots of my Dual Coil. Not sure I'm going to be able to run it because of firewall clearance. May have to change that. I need one of these driver side headers, anyone? 57-58 from a 364.
So what car is this out of? It's factory? Which engine will it fit. Need to find something for my 401.

The crank is stock, but seems to have been toyed with as well. This motor was built for a 60's drag boat and never used......tucked away and forgotten.
I dont think ive added anything to my nailhead collection other than a set of NOS hurst motor mounts. Im still looking for a weiand drag star high rise 6x2 if anyone knows of one, i have a weiand drag star low rise to trade. I picked up this 62 401 with a dynaflow this last saturday. It came out of a 54 ford hot rod truck, and now it's gonna go into a 1926 buick sedan. So leave some speed parts for me.
I don't have a nailhead engine but 'could look at this stuff for hours Great stuff. More please... CM
Thank you zman! Item is relisted and link above is correct now. Question about another part: I bought this nailhead timing cover recently. It is NOS item and came with nice old package also. I've seen better casting work during my life... polished it a bit yesterday and will continue tonight. Don't know how rare these are..? If they are not, does someone have similar and possibly knowledge which oil seal I should use on it? This old "shoelace" -type seal has totally dried out. Some part number would be great info or possibly some tip which car uses oil seal of same size? Would not like to use that old style oil seal...
added an edmunds 2x2 and 2x4 intake to my collection and a weiand 3x2 401. Anyone have pics of a cragar nailhead 471 blower intake? JEFF
Just picked up a Alchol inj 364 with some really amazing head work. Came with Weiand VC's, MT al rods, full roller cam, 15:1 pistons, hydro w/ adapter really a cool engine. Built in 58
