has anyone put a push slave on a muncie 4 speed, can not use a pull style. If so any pic would be great. Thanks
Chevy used them on big trucks starting in the later 50s, and then came on pickups for 60-62...but these are mounted on the special bell housing with passenger side fork. It will work fine if you make a bracket to hold the slave, because the slave mounting bosses will fit the same on either side application. If nobody puts up a pic, I can show that slave on my early olds in a 32.
It wouldn't matter if the trans was a Muncie car four speed, Saginaw three or four speed or a truck trans you would just have to figure out how to mount the slave cylinder. I've had a couple of those early 60's Chev & GMC pickups over the years and the slaves worked pretty good unless they leaked.
Here is my chevy setup on an early olds. The olds fork only has one place to push to, but the Chevy truck fork on my 59 348 with slave, has 2 factory places to push on. Maybe one fork fit both Hyd type, and normal type clutch mechanical linkages? That's my bet. -The chevy slave used the inner hole on the fork from the factory. -the olds fork has it's only hole at the same length as the chevy outer hole. So I was concerned if my slave would work with using the outer hole. It works perfect.
www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_hcrc.htm Have a look at this. Pricey, but looks pretty slick. Dennis D
Also, Mr48chev is correct on trans type not being an issue, but we both forgot to say that the length of the throw out bearing does matter.... ooops There were 2 TOB lengths that I knew of back then, maybe there are more? Anyways, one fits the diaphragm type pressure plate and the other one fits a pressure plate with the 3 levers. If you chose wrong length; one way will have the fork way too far back, before you even depress the clutch pedal. The other wrong choice would have the bearing already pushing in on the plate, before you push the pedal.
I'm using the same slave as F&J but on a Chevy. It's an Ansen bracket bolted to a scattershield. I have the part number for this slave if you need it. I just replaced it. These are pics of the old one. Sorry for the crappy upside down pic
Im using a 1956 Ford Pick up slave cylinder that I got from Auto Zone. Has a handy mounting bracket casted in. I made a mounting bracket off of the frame and bolted it in place. I'm using a 1961 Chevy truck master cylinder and the 56 ford truck slave happens to have the same bore size as a stock 61 Chevy slave so it should work fine.
I used a cnc one that i bought at a dune buggy store. Speedway has them. I made a mounting bracket that bolts on useing a bellhousing bolt, and dust shield bolt hole. then a brace that goes to a boss on the block.
Nice clean set-up! I dug out my slip from NAPA. I just replaced mine, it was $36. Part is #NCF 73467. They came on Dodge trucks apparently.
I have a Wilwood slave pusher style on my BW tranny in my 34, you just gotta make a mount and make it damn strong so it doesn't bend against the pressure of the clutch plate.
5W Coupe do you know the bore size on that NAPA slave , I just called my local and they can't tell me , Da it ain't in the computer? $26.78 What did you use for a push rod? Dodge truck 1957 to 68 thanks nice clean set-up.

Dodge truck 1957 to 68 thanks nice clean set-up. Thanks- Don't know about Dodge, I took mine off a 1960 Chevy truck along w/ the dual master cyl. but these are available re-built from Napa and others. If I remember there are 2 different bore sizes about 1/16" or 1/8" apart. The rebuild kit I used for my slave was EIS #C663. I made the pushrod out of a fine thread hex coupling and a cut-off grade 8 bolt. Hope that helps
i've got a bracket mounted to a '55 bell housing(drivers side). its a gm slave made for the passenger side 60-62 ish. its mounted upside down on a soft line. u gotta unbolt it to bleed it.i kept it the same as the original early 60's build.
Thanks for all the replys. I bought the Novak set-up. I like all of your guys idea's and they all look good. Thanks for sharing
Please post the bore sizes of the slave cylinders used; it'll help those of us still planning. Master bore sizes would help also. Thanks for starting this thread!
Just some info I had: Here is a stock 1959 Chevy 348 big truck TOB fork arm with the two spots for the linkage to push on. Also, that is the Chevy slave to go with it, as well as what the stock linkage looks like. Not sure on the bore size.
