My friend Adam picked this car up a little over a year ago. He bought it out of Seattle off of Craigslist. It was in the beginning stages of getting street rodded. It has a crate 350 in it, disc brakes, and some other newer touches. It had really wide cragars on it, and a wild flame job. But if you looked beyond that, you could see an old hot rod. It had bobbed rear fenders, plated front end (owner still had the plated early Ford juice brakes), older interior, plated garnish moldings and old black paint. Adam's original plan was to un-chanel it and build it as a regular ol 32 5W. Shortly after he got it home, a few guys came over and recognized it as an old Spokane hot rod. They claimed it was built in the late 50's and was flathead powered. It was in town for years, and dissapered. A couple guys tried to buy it knowing the history, but a deal was never struck even though Adam was not that into the car at the time, he just wanted a 32 5W. I had a 1949 Olds with and Edelbrock intake, Hurst starter switchover, 97's and an oil filter relocator that I sold him and after he yanked the 350 out he decided to drop that Olds in there. He also got a longer grill shell as the one on it was way too short. He changed the tires and wheels, and took the flames off. He did a lot of little things to clean it up, always wondering what the car originally looked like. Then a few weeks ago things changed. He ran into a mutual friend of ours Darrell, that heard about his car, and thought it may be his old high school hot rod. Turns out he was right, and he gave Adam these pictures showing the car through out the years. The crazy thing is, the way Adam built it, is very, very similar to how it looked back in the late 50's with out even knowing it, olds and all! Now with the history Adam really loves the thing and is glad he stuck with it! In the 50's: This is the day Darrell sold it to anothe guy in Spokane: This is probably early 70's at the Spokane Auto Boat Speed show And today. Still some left to do, but you get the idea.
Ok, where are the photos? It sounds like a car a buddy of mine had about 15 years ago with the wide Cragers but I don't remember ever seeing under the hood. We used to see each other at the Run to Roslyn every year for a number of years.
I guess the rear fenders were missing... it needs them back Nice to see another old channeled 32 with a Olds. Lucky him.
He actually took them off, I think the fixed them and put them on another 32 project he has. I hated them when I first saw the car, but in the first two pics they look awesome!
Outstanding chain of events! Of course, I would expect nothing less from you and your friends at the "Old Ford" Detective Agency! I'm lovin it.......but I'm prejudice..
Yeah, really cool how when he first saw the pics, it pretty much looked like it did back then! I guess good taste never goes out of style
