No offense to you but I'd sure like to hear the other side of this story.

Unless both parties agree, the recording is not admissible. Answering machine recordings are admissible because the calling party knows they are being recorded. If you call someone in jail, you will hear a beeping sound every few seconds to let the parties know they are being recorded. Public officials like police officers can be recorded because their conversations are public. Visa versa, they can record you without your knowledge.

Is the car currently in your name? In the case you describe, it's strictly a civil matter and the police shouldn't get involved. You can file an embezzled vehicle report. The police will investigate for 3 days. If they haven't got the car back, they will turn it into a stolen report.

That's what he needs. A bunch of H.A.M.B.ers banding together and rolling in there thick. Roll in ten deep, pay the bill, get the keys, and ride out with escorts. Strength in numbers. I'm not advocating any vigilante shit, but if you've got a bunch of guys who know what the hell they're talking about (and have the ability to keep their cool), well, there's both safety and strength in numbers. I wish I was within a few hours drive. I'd love to help you out. But you need to assemble and roll ASAP.

WOW I wish you luck but like every one here Get that car out asap! I think the car may be gone you say he has to send you certified letter in the mail, well the way this guy acts I don't think he would send you any thing if you have not seen this car then how do you know he has any more? This SOB may just have cut it all up and sold it as parts by now. Man I wish you lots of luck.

Texas is a one party consent State when it comes to recording conversations. Not all States are. That means as long as I know I am recording a conversation between you and I it is legal.

But that is just a small part of this whole unbelievable story. How the hell do you give your car to a total stranger with a very vague agreement of what is to be done, then lose track of him, find him, and then WAIT TILL NEXT WEEK TO GO SEE IT ??????????? Someone needs to reach through the computer screen and shake you into reality. GO GET YOUR CAR TODAY !!!!!!!

You can best believe that if I were in your shoes I would be down at the local police station filing a stolen car report and having them accompany me to the guys location. Then, if you get the car in your sights you can cancel the charges against him and get your car the hell out of there right then and there.

Geesh !!!!!!:rolleyes: I somehow don't think we have heard the end of this one yet.

Does the H.A.M.B. post bail for Members in need? If I were in rhd's situation I might need bail money right about now, because I sure as hell would've at LEAST assaulted that prick motherfucker. Probably would've stopped to piss on his dog on the way out, too.

Have any friends or friends of friends that are local cops? I would get one of them to tag along when you pick it up.

something doesn't sound right all the way around... he was asked many times who had it/name of the shop, location, etc... there are a ton of us in DFW, if someone had my car held hostage, you bet your ass I'd be there w/a truckload of people... IF the story is legit, hope nothing bad went down

Let's wait a day or two more before we go filing a missing person report. He MAY have gotten his car back after all, and he's just out enjoying it. OR, he's locked in the trunk on some service road out in the middle of nowhere...

When you hear a story like his the first thing that comes to mind is there must be something we are missing here. How does someone "lose" a car, and how does someone just "keep" a car. I bet we only got a piece of the puzzle.
