Stopped at a garage sale yesterday. Lots of the usual baskets, glasware, kids clothing... Then off in the corner he had a few misc. engine parts, heads, clutches and a few carbs. Initially I walked right by them but on my way back I noticed a couple of 2 barrel carbs. I thought they were Ford 94 but as I picked one up they guy says, "yeah they are Strombergs". Mind you they were large logo 97's also! I ask how much and he says, I don't know how about 5 bucks for the pair? I ask if he has any more, which he didn't. So I gave him $5 and smiled all the way home. Wish I could score like this every time I visit a garage sale... Usually I leave empty handed! CTJ
wanna trade for some baby clothes? I go garage sale-ing once in a while and all I see is baby clothes.
A few years back there was a guy that bought an Ardun conversion at a yard sale. That story tops all, but man you scored!! I thought I was livin' good last weekend picking up a DeWalt angle grinder for a buck, but you got me beat! I love yard sales! I always ask if they have any car parts, tools, or signs. You just never know...
Ain't that the f'n truth........^^^^^^ Can't get much better than that on the 97's. That's gotta make ya feel good.
Hey guys, Thanks for all of the gracious offers to buy/trade for the carbs. However, I think I will keep them and look for a 3rd one to complete the 3 duece setup on my sons Merc Flathead... CTJ
Congradulations. Great score! First thing I do when I go to a garage or estate sale is ask "where are the old rusty tools and broken car parts?" Ted
Great score ! I bought a Stromberg large logo w/alum. intake off CL about 5 years ago for $25 ! I was the first one to answered the ad so I got it . Got a big heavy real USA made anvil for $50 off CL for being the first caller ! I also have a great yard sale find as well . Last summer my wife and I stopped at a yard sale full of car parts . Well they all were Chev parts from engines to transmissions and I am a FORD guy . Anyway I always look to see if I can find something to use or flip . Well there was a 4 speed trans . It's a SBF toploader 4 speed trans at that . Well I ask how much and he calls his friend . He says $100 . I made an offer of $60 . He tells his friend and he says yes . I go and tell the wife and she says are you kidding me ? She says I will be right back and off she goes to the bank ! At another yard sale I also found an early 4 speed Hurst super shifter complete and got if for $5 from the guy that had it along with a ton of other parts he had for a Mustang he owned many years ago . I have been very lucky at yard sales many times when it comes to car parts . It just pays to be lucky sometimes ! Retro Jim
