This coupe belongs to my buddy Mike in N.Y. Now we know what happend to the Eastern Shaker's nose. These old vintage photos were just found tracing the history of his steel coupe he has owned for about 10 years now.

Yes, yes it is. I dig the heck out of that 39 nose with working cowl vent!

  4. Those pictures were taken at my parents' house when I was a little kid. That was my dad's 59 Ford car carrier ramp truck. This was when Frankie Calabro owned the car. I used to play in that car.

And that's what's called " the rest of the story." This is what makes the HAMB great, all sides of the the history.

Dave These are the only pictures of that 1939 Californian and it may have been the only one produced in 1939....

Just read the first 19 pages, approx, of this thread. LOVE it. But time to hit the bed for now...big week ahead of me.

Before I go; I grew up knowing two Willys drag racers in southwest Ohio area. Paul Frost (Brockman's Speed Shop) was a successful match racer, and is still my good friend today. I love to hear the stories from him and his wife about racing his Willys' match-race cars. But his cars were almost all fiberglass.

The other was a gasser owned by James "Jeff" Gray, a sheet metal worker who worked with my dad. When I got old enough to drive, I hung out at his shop, and helped when I could, and he helped me build engines for my street-racing habit. He owned a blue Willys...(a 1941, with a 1940 nose, if I recall correctly) with an tubular rear push bar which might have been machined out of heavy aluminum, and an expanded-metal grille. The same car belonged to Frank Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, at one time. Frank ran a carburetor and ignition shop on North Main St in Dayton, under his own name. I met him several times.

Wonder whatever became of those cars? Anyone know?

Hi Dave, I actually have that eastern shaker front clip in that picture, before i got it someone had sprayed it with red primer it seems but it was scuffed down enough to bring out the lettering. Im building my coupe in Bal. Md and hope to restore that clip. Thanks for all the pics!
