Hot Rods "Forgatti" in this month's Hot Rod!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by brett4christ, May 11, 2012.

  1. Yes, I said Hot Rod! A gearhead in Sweden took an old Bugatti body and inserted a built Ardun-headed Model B banger to create a really cool period hot rod! I'll try to scan a pic this evening, but if you can't wait, hit your local news stand!

    You'll be glad you did!

I really dig it! I was wondering whether he was a HAMBer or a FordBarn member because that car is awesome.

I was just going to post something on it. It SURE is cool. Basically a T with a handsome speedster body. Can I get mine in white with 2 dark blue stripes? Gary

PS this is the second Norweigan guy we've heard of this month who's cloned a Bugatti.

Ford 4Bangers in Bugatti chassis aren't new, they made this swap in the 1930's, there is one running in VSCCA events. Bob

It has a Model A chassis and a hand made (in England) aluminum body.

Here is a photo I nabbed off a site when I was hunting Boat tail roadster photos for inspiration. I think it got used on that article.

Note the finned Buick drums on the front among other little details.

So its a rebodied Model A? Where does the word 'bugatti' enter the picture?

I'd be more excited if it were a Bugatti engine in an original Ford. So someone has had a Bugatti style body replicated on a Ford chassis and stuck and Ardun in it? Are the heads original or "Double Don's" - Orosco and Ferguson? Yes it is cool but not super cool as in done back in the day cool. Maybe I should post photos of the Duesenberg J powered Pierce Arrow chassis, Dodge roadster bodied build....

The body is a reproduction of a Type 35 Bugatti body he got from a Bugatti restorer, plus they apparently used some genuine Bugatti bits and pieces.

edit: It's also a four banger engine with a single Ardun head.

It's a neat little car, I don't understand the point of cutting the builder down.

I dont see ANY derogatory comments towards the builder here. Have I missed something?

MY GAWD Is that EVER bitchen! Just imagine a slightly longer nose, Brooklands screens, a Buick straight 8 with 4 SU's with velocity stacks protruding though the hood sides, external exhaust running down the outside of the car, and Rudge Whitworth wheels...

Someone wanted a straight 8. Here ya go.
Here's a video I took at the Packard Museum in Dayton OH in 2010 of Jesse Vincent's 1928 Model 628 speedster.

And here I am taking it for a hot lap around the block.

Good to see that you were appropriately attired. Judging by the background, it looks like you were REALLY hauling ass in that bad boy...:D

I was messing with camera shots of me "posing" beside the car and my wife on the other side to get a faux shot of me "in" the car.
Then one of the workers asked me if I wanted to actually sit in it!
    "REALLY???? SURE!"
I then, sort of off-handedly said: "Now I just need the snoopy hat and goggles."
And the guy brought them out.
As you can tell, the helmet didn't fit me too well...
But I felt like a kid in a toy store with no one else there.:D
Anyone visiting the Dayton area, the Packard Museum is a must see.

OK! Here is some more facts about the Roaring Dragon (Name of the car).

The chassi is a French Delage D8 1930 and the length of the car is 16.5 foot (5meter), Front axle and transmission is from Ford Truck from early 40´s. Rear axle is a Quickchange to get some top speed due to max 2500 rpm. Wheels are Ford 21"/7".

The body is in Aluminum (own creation). The paint is matt black celloulosa. The jam packed dashboard contains a number of instruments from aviation and prewar cars from 30´s to 40´s. Belive it or not, but all are needed to monitor and run the engine. The engine starts with help of air pressure and that is a challenge of its own.

Here is a funny youtube clip of the second start of the engine and I guess the roaring Dragon is appropriate name for the car.

That video makes me giggle like a school girl. Love the guy in the red sweater hustling to get the hell outta the way. Truly awe inspiring levels of lunacy. I really need something like this. Not sure what for, mind you...

The guy in the red sweather is my father and he will not admit he was terrified. He was just going to see what happen with the supercharger he said:). I agree is a good portion of laugh.

Mathis25 - apart from not introducing yourself, many thanks for the posts.
Your 'forgatti' is amazingly beautiful and looks like a many-million dollar jewel that should be at Pebble Beach.
I'm really glad its got so much hot rod in its DNA.
Please post some more pics - even start a thread for each car with lots of photos, but introduce yourself first.
    Cheers.
