Yes it is. Gene's Speed Shop was on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. Gene's nephew, Steve found this car in Canada and has restored it.

Tommy, That is the only shot I have, a good friend of mine knew Clarence quite well, the story he tells me is that Clarence bought the one year old SS396 as a recovered theft, pulled the engine and installed the Flathead. Clarence raced Bonneville and the drags for about 40 years, with all types of cars, mostly Flathead powered.

Yes that is our car. Ours is black though. You were probably talking to Peter Gibson from Gorham Maine. He's a friend of steve's.

There are several pictures of Mike Schmitt's Desert Motors F/X cars on <http://www.colesy-juniorstockforum.com>. There is an entire thread devoted to Mike Schmitt. You should be able to search using his name.

  22. Yes, there was. You selected your dial in by what you ran on tune up passes. No tolerance, run quicker than your dial in, you're out. We ran 7 passes within .07 of each other, with a T-10 four speed. As I said, best day ever for the old red car. :)

Did you take any photos of the race that day? What can you tell us about the driver? I am looking for photos or articles on Bad News Coupe.

Dean............... Here's a picture of the old red car that Dick Page posted on my Northwest Rods and Customs Facebook page. Someone had thought that it was the Tinker Bell RPU that Stan Ochs in Portland has for sale.

I think the modified fuel roadster, the class that the car appears to be designed for, was dying when the car was being constructed. I wonder if this later served as the Lee Jennings car that ran A/FD in pro-comp 1974?

  28. That shot was taken at an SCTA 1/2 mile race at Riverside in 1961. I was still saving after school work money for the rear Halibrands.
