our good friend Rick (ricksherl)from OK who owns a wonderful 57 Chevy but decided to build his first hot rod coupe ever at age 60 after sitting in the parking lot at Joplin at the Hamb drags a couple years ago. He did a good job and this was the first drive for this car ever---
Like a true hot rodder---Rick taught himself how to weld and how to paint while building this car. It is not done yet but he has 1 year and 3 months in it so far and told me how his 87 year old father with bad vision came and helped him work on it some afternoons.

And it was big fun for me to see my old friend from back home Jon Humbyrd and his daughter Shelby from OK. I had not seen him since about 1983 or so and found him recntly thanks to the magic of Facebook...

This was an 8 hour round trip for us that day and that don't include the few hours spent at the show itself. I chose not to stay overnight to save money on motels. And on the long drive home across the beautiful pastures of Kansas Flint Hills Region I stopped to photograph one of my favorite gas stations in Howard, KS.

Paul, it seemed like we've known each other for years. Had a great time visiting with you, Mrs. Povertyflats, Jon and Shelby. Just a great day.

The couple that got married are Steve and Brandi Cobb. It was all arranged ahead of time, but they didn't want their friends to know until it was time for the ceremony.

The Stray Kat is one I hate to miss, as you said, the people being the main thing, and the cars a close second!

I will try to make a chess pie for you soon and send it your way!
