Yesterday, I went to the Ohio Mile in Wilmington. Lot's of cool cars to look at. The old Gremlin ran the mile at 181 MPH. They'll be at again in June.
Well I guess 1 out of 5 being remotely on topic isn't bad. And I'm sure as hell not talking about the truck...
Wow, that was already? I was just up through Oscoda and was wishing they'd picked Wurtsmith for the new ECTA venue.
3 connie kalitta tried using it as a drag strip the locals whinned but a 1 weekend event 2 / 3 times a summer would be good for the motels in the area I wonder if the ecta asked the county who owns the airport
The Wilmington Air Park is like 15,000 acres. I would love to see a road course and drag way develop there. The airport is now owned by the City of Wilmington and was a former DHL private facility. It was the largest private airport in the US.
6 weather delays ... doubt there were 300 runs for the weekend .... track is beautiful ... the people both local and competitors were great.
I agree the weather was cool and wet. At one point I slept out the rain in my car for about an hour and a half. I found the people to be very nice too. The next event there is June 2-3 and then again July 7-8 and September 29-30. I also found a place in town called Damon's the Ribeye was very good.
The HAMB is for 1964 and earlier traditional hot rods and customs. Everything else is off-topic to one degree or another. The pictures you posted are of vehicles that are off-topic. Just because it's people trying to set speed records doesn't make it HAMB material. Make sense?
Hated to lose Maxton, but nice to see a whole new segment of the population exposed to this great organization and fantastic events. Go if you get half a chance.
The gremlin was the shit....i dont care who you are or what site it is...that liitle ride made 180+ look easy...the yellow and white metro was rollin to
That looks like fun. I don't think I'm brave enough or nuts enough to run 180 in a Gremlin. One that can run 180 is worthy of making the thread, probably more worthy than that truck with the dual wheels unless it was a push truck.
I guess the pre 64 police need to send out some more nasty grams. see link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=693258
Dude, the Bonnepan ruled! Brew was there with his "Deliverance" 45 too. There was a Y-block powered sedan that went over 150 unblown. We ran like dog poo, but got a bunch of stuff figured out on the brand new car, plus it was a thrown together engine, not the race shit. There was a bunch of modern corvettes, mustangs and bikes clogging up the lines, but all in all it was pretty cool. The track RULES! Time to get out to Ohio dude. You know it's closer than Maxton...
I wouldn't want to do 18.1mph in the truck in the first pic! Probably the coolest/scariest I Gremlin I have ever and will ever see!
My son and I was there all day Sat, lots of new stuff running. We liked the gremlin also and it did haul ass, seen the black '55 Ford run that is one bad little Y Block, sounded real good at the big end. Even with the rain it was still a bad ass day, will be back again. We learned a lot as this was our frist outting watching at a land speed event, next one will be better.
Sounds like atleast a couple of people liked my 55 ford here is a link to a in car video of my first pass Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJWeYyqIrjM&feature=youtube
Dayummm, that thing sounds awesome! By your other videos we can tell you've been at this long enough to have it sorted out. What kind of revs are you pulling? Whyncha come over to the Texas Mile in October and let us check it out! Fearless
My first ECTA/LSR event also.Myself and 2 buddies went Sunday and despite a slight rain delay and being windy I thought it was a great turnout. As a spectator of all sorts of racing from drags to dirt track I have to say the LSR competitors are by far the NICEST bunch of people ever. You should all be commended for your awesome attitudes towards spectators. We never felt like we were intruding when looking or asking questions.Best bunch of racers ever.Thank You for making some first timers feel welcome. We will definately be back and hope to double the number next time.Hope to get to know some of you better as I am sure there are some very interesting stories that belong to all those cars/drivers. <!-- / message -->
