I've experimented with a lot of photoshopped wagon to rancho conversions. I've noticed some interesting proportion tricks with gm and ford models. On models with vent windows in the front doors, if you move the rear door window forward to match that vent window, it puts the door at about the same length as the 2dr door. I've never physically tried it though, but from cutting up photos from lots of different angles, it seems to work out that way.

So, in theory, you could add 2dr doors, install the rear window frame and window in the door, and it would match up. Works in photos, but reality might be different.

You could move the hatch window forward, but you'd have to make filler panels between the door frame area, and the hatch window. The area where the rear-most side windows curve to meet the hatch on the wagon.

I really love that body style, I think it's a perfect candidate for this kind of conversion.

  13. Ok... so I tried it again this week.. let me know if I did any better! lol.... I found a picture of Detroit Dragway's timing tower from the 5th annual "nationals championships" from Sept. 1959... thought it might be appropriate to marry the car with it :)

You are improving Grasshopper. Patience and perseverance are their own rewards, but when all does not come together as one would wish, slam a few beers, say bad words, dance a jig and then continue on your quest for perfection.:D

Yo, JamesD. You know as well as I do that we generally don't chop a Hudson. But since this one's already been Photo-CHOPPED a bit, would you bring it more into tasteful proportion?

Just a visual exercise. But leaving the roof STAT, can you pull the rear forward about nine or ten inches? I mean from where you see the front of that electrical box in the background. Huge THANKS in advance! As I said, it's just playing visually, before a guy starts seriously cutting metal, busting knuckles .... OH, and spending money!

BTW, I myself LIKE it long, long, long and low like that. But it would be keen to SEE how it would look pulled in a tad, ya know?

I had to do one that the hump was removed off the back of the roof also.

If this isn't the color you're after, give me a sample and I'll try again.

Many thanks. NICE WORK! Sorry if that seemed redundant. I wasn't sure when I asked if you were watching the other thread. But obviously, the quest fo an artful Hudson chop is a matter of keen interest to Hudsonados and HAMBers in general! Shortening that up a tad behind the rear window DOES make the proportions click, doesn't it? Thanks.:)
