    I am at a crossroads.
This is what we have been building toward for 4 years:

The side chrome is the issue.
I have some '56 Buick "swoopy" side chrome in hand that would fit nicely.
The side chrome shown above is not easily do-able.
Can anyone please redo this pic with the Buick chrome?

    Thanks!
    Glenn

    Glenn:
Here is the '56 Buick chrome sweep-spear, from the rear wheel opening forward. I added a '54 Buick Special rear-spear over the rear wheel opening which looks to fit there pretty well.

Remember that in three dimensions both the body and the stainless trim may curve in different directions.
And you have to deal with the door cut lines which will probably differ, too.

    Rocketbob....

That was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to explain the process. I now understand what was meant by your first post. Thank you.

I have been on the hunt for a new old car. My goal is to find one for under $5000 that would make a nice custom. Must be a 1950s-60s driver from day 1, in good mechanical order.

So I have been scanning the ads to see what turns up. I'm willing to take oddballs, 4-doors, whatever, if I can see some custom potential.

    Found this on Craigslist:
"1965 Barracuda for sale 6 cylinder automatic. New tires. Well maintained. Very clean car. $3500"

Ugly color, but priced right. Called but was 5 minutes too late. Anyway, here is what I did with the photo.

Might be fun to see what you all can find locally for a good price and do a photoshop custom.

^ I like what you did with the bumpers and side blister. Ties the lower half together visually. And the heavied-up rear-pillar gives the top some weight. Nice!

Thanks, I love the rear window on these cars, But never liked the way they did the back pillar. I think the back side window matching the rear window looks better.

I have been having nightmares on fixing my wagon. It was Tboned and needs a new quarter and rear door on the passenger side.. It now has a salvage title so might as well cut it up.. Lets see a Ranchero with longer doors..

Any one have ideas for paint or inspiration? Could some one do dark silver or gray on the dark green and light silver or gray on the light green.

I did two versions: a mild custom and something a bit more ambitious.
I really like two-tone green colors so I kept them and just cleaned up a bit and put it on level ground.

For the mild custom version, I shaved the bumpers, handle, and taillight.
Added some white whites and simple chrome hubcaps.

The next version removes about an inch of the roof crown above the window top. Then sections 1-2 inches through the middle. The rear is angled forward for a "faster" profile.

Some Chromies and custom paint update the panel to the sixties. I softened the top for a pearl coat look. Bottom has some purple and violet fogging. I pictured the dark green in a metallic or metalflake, but don't have a good way to show that, so I left it as is.

probably need *some sort* of trim, but, who knows. Could be lowered another 2" in back, and 2 in front I guess.
    ain't happening anytime soon anyhow...

I like the way the chopped top looks.
It reminds me of a chopped '34 Ford coupe, Bonneville-style.
