Projects '53 Chevy truck - My crazy project

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by orula, Mar 8, 2011.

1. I have an extra radiator support, but only the one set of the cross bracing. I can measure them when I go to the garage this weekend. I'll try and see if the top of the support unbolts. If you're interested

2. I am sooo jealous, your truck is amazing! Your attention to every detail is top notch. I only wish I was closer so I could see it in person. This makes me want to get a truck as my next project. Thanks for sharing all your hard work. It is truly inspirational.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

4. Are you interested in the top of the radiator support if I can get it apart?

11. I have a picture of the factory core support. It has a lower horizontal brace and the x-brace. they are spot welded to the frame. 3/8" diameter rod with flattened ends is all it is. the top bar is also spot welded to the sides.

Thank you so much Yetikustoms,

I must say that even now this truck arouses much interest, especially because it's an American truck.
When this is over, make me mayor of rome :D:D:D

Hi Nicolas,

on my truck was missing lower horizontal brace and the x-brace.
You can now determine the dimensions hole to hole of each brace?

Many thanks for your help.

Frank

15. Frank, the lower horizontal brace is 22" long, each x-brace is 29" long. 1" of each end is flattened. Mine are spot welded on and they are also welded were they cross at the "X".

Frank, I don't want to cause a problem about the X braces, but I also had to remove mine. I needed the front space for my condenser which was mounted to my Walker radiator. I did keep the top piece and the two braces that go to the splash apron. Here is the pic of when I first was fitting my stuff and the second in what I ended up with. Just wanted to let you know, what I did....Jim

Yeah, I saw that too..funny, only because I spent some weeks looking for my delux. None the less - different strokes for different folks. He's doing a great job.

Beautiful truck. If you want to do any painting on the hood ornament, paint the "Chevrolet" letter white like you did the "thriftmaster". That will tie it all together. keep up the good work. Mark

19. I took a couple of photos of the spare radiator support I have, since it seem like you already got the measures you need, I didn't do those. Let me know if this is interesting.

Love it!

ORULA, did you use a kit for the 4 link rear or was it custom. If so who did you use?

Thanks

27. No problem buddy. Anything for an AD friend! I could even find out how much it would be to send the whole support to Rome if you're interested.

Hi C6_Rob,

yes, io have used a Heidts rear 4 link kit but I had to customize
to lower the frame to the ground.

If you want I can send you some pictures.

Today I painted the '55 chevy horns and installed chrome covers.
I really like and would like to find a place for them to view
