A 500+ hp Blown Flathead-Is It Even Remotely Possible? VIDEO!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 38FLATTIE, Apr 12, 2012.

  1. Yeah sorry, I was referring to the one in the original post I wasn't thinking raidmagic was maybe asking about top header on the blown flathead dragster.

Awesome job! When you gonna run it?
I'd rather see a HAMBER make 500 hp than a multi-million dollar consortium make 700 hp. And I like the Ron Main/George Poteet Flatfire deal, it's just that it's a little out of reach for me. Good job 38Flattie.

  4. And NO Arduns are NOT a flathead....................
and yes Buddy's flat Cad is awsooooommmmeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Way cool! Just curious, you have any results at lower RPMs and any boost numbers?

Looking at the dyno screen, air/fuels at 10, so Id say thats alcohol. No BSFC numbers also. This is impressive.

  10.
I thought he was running a gas class?

  11. We're running on gas - 570 hp and she'd do quite a bit more if we threw more boost at her.

    Some numbers:

    RPM, Torque, HP
    ----------------------
    4000, 552, 420
    4500, 561, 480
    5000, 560, 533
    5500, 544, 570

    Blower, 1 to 1, 14.2 lbs

It would be scary to see what more boost would deliver - then how about boost, methanol and some nitro in it

Great stuff to see all the work deliver some solid results. Makes us all proud of what an old Cadillac can do!

  12. I heard he was pushing 600 to 700, and had to detune it for BVille. I'm sure he was not running on Gas - His boost levels had to be 25lbs+

  13. I've heard he has pushed up above 900 - on pop though

Most impressive. Not only is this old Caddy built to make big power, it's built to last a while as well. Bonneville engines are way more highly stressed than drag race engines, so the ultimate power numbers are not really comparable. No matter how much power you make with smarts and hard work, some one else can make more with gobs more money. It's the way of the world.
Bored&Stroked and Flat Cad Racing used good sense and sound engine building techniques to build a honest 500 plus hp engine from an antiquated engine design.
Kudos gentlemen, you deserve it because you worked for it.

  15. That's damn impressive, especially on gas.
How much boost would you expect this engine to ultimately handle?

  17. That thing would make a certain lakester fly ;)

  18. Give him the bolt pattern Dale so he can set up the lakester for both...........
what was really great was to see the fruits of the labor and time come together without any real glitches..... an accomplishment that few can attain....... Great job Buddy, Dale, Don and everyone who had a hand in this deal..............
The smile on Buddy's face was..........well Priceless!

Trent, I don't know if it will fit! We have an offer to go in a 30 inch lakester, and I don't know if it will fit there either!

  20. In our lakester it would look like Fast Freddies with heads and exhaust hangin out the sides with most of the blower sticking out of the body! Engine room is 20"w x 30" tall

Heads are 26" wide, block is about 35" long with snout girdle. 32" tall to top of exhaust manifolds-takes a Ford FE bellousing!

It's sooo impressive what The Flatcad crew has accomplished!
I would love to see it on Alcohol:D! I will suspect it would be the most powerful flathead ever!
We sure hope to be near the 500 hp limit ourselfs, but that will be on alcohol:)! We should be able to set some sort of european record:D!?

    Faked, I tell you, faked.

To answer the question posed in the thread title, no it's not possible. Sorry. Won't happen. Not ever. Don't let those photoshopping, video-editing cowboys tell you any different. My neighbor's cat told me so and I believe her.

(ok guys good job. Keep the boost down & keep it together through the measured mile)

  27. Little Skeet..........
Open your eyes 570 HP 564.5 Torque..............

And Go Kjell hope ya get it!!!!!
