So, is a 500+ ft/lb torque, 500+ HP flathead possible?

How cool would that be, huh?

That would be very cool!! Now looking at the pictures is it reality? I've been following the build and if any flathead hit 500 I would'nt be suprised if it was yours.

  3. So did ya hit 500? That is a wicked engine.

I don't see Why not, Look what the fuel cars are putting out these days, Hell they were putting out 5000 HP back in the 90's, You just need people like you and Dale to get after it, Can't wait to see the video and final numbers, Congrats Tim Jones

Oh man, that's exciting! Is that a 671 or 871? How much boost and that good stuf?

I'm getting ready to build a blown flatty but I'll be happy with anything over 300 HP.

    3 Mains, 4.625" stroke, 3.55" bore, 14.2 lbs boost @5500 rpm.

    It's a very conservative tune!

Seems like steady, determined development is an implacable force that just keeps moving past the barriers! Remember the 1-G barrier for the quarte mile, blown away in about 1953 to the consternation of the engineers.
I'm still shaking my head over the 200MPH Model T motor a year or two ago...If people like we have on here put their minds to it, we could have a flathead powered Moon expedition someday!
One thing technology has done...electronic controls now allow figuring out mixture, boost, and advance without blowing up engines over each wrong guess.

If ardun counts as a flathead, ask willie glass. hes' been running blown flatties for years in his roadster at 240ish mph - old v belt blowers at that i believe. i don't know how much power he is making, won't tell me much - maybe Joe T. will chime in - but the rods look near stock to me, about as big around as my thumb and three mains but they are modified.
Be nice to get Willie on here, he's got a story or two.

I quess everybody forgot about Ron Main's Flatfire, the first flathead to break 300 mph a few years ago, and had around 700 HP. :)

Great numbers guys, That FlatCad should run strong. You got a ways to go to get to Rick Schnell's 830 Hp Slider FED. The world's fastest flathead powered dragster.

Can't read the top of the computer screen on the pic, I assume that is 570 HP at 5500 RPM. I so, guess you met your goal, congrats!

Ya know, I've surely been wrong three or four different times in the past, but this time I'll have to stick my neck out and say that ain't no Caddy IN THE RED DRAGSTER. Looks like a 24-stud Henry flathead with some very imaginative exhaust mods on CYLINDERS # 6 and 7 in the picture, and more than likely CYLINDERS # 2 and 3 on the other side. DD

  30. I agree, the one in the dragster is a Ford, but the engine originally posted is a Cadillac.
