History My 39 Sedan, A Tribute To The Greatest Generation!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldfart36, Apr 11, 2012.

  1. A tribute to the Greatest Generation!

While I still have some small issues to address in the car (don't we all), the 39 is really coming along. The car is not suppose to be a totally factual account, but a tribute. The serial number AAF41842 represents, AAF-Army Air Force, and the date 4/18/42 is the date the Dolittle Raid took off.

The factory color while not being an OD flat is really very close to the old OD's, so, this was the plan.

Thanks to all the Vets that have served.

    Chris,
That is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love WWII staff cars. That color really does look good as well and the paint on that old girl is too damn nice to change to a flat, OD anyway. Actually, during the pre- Pearl Harbor days and into early 1942, they basically just used stock, civilian models like this for staff cars anyway. They left the trim and didn'treally change the exterior or add blackout lights until a bit later.

This is a really nice sedan and it looks pretty slick with the serial number and stars! You should try to find a dated, military license plate for it. I LOVE IT and can't wait to see it in person!!!

    quite an honor.

  7. Ya Bugs, there were quite a few training bases in my area during the war. The tag rider that I have on the front is from one of them "Coffeeville". There was alot of early war factory painted cars in this color running around, both with the blackouts and without.;), most think only 4 doors, but there were 2 doors as well. I still have the keys to the base in Edna Kansas, which is now just old runways and pasture. One of the areas most interesting facts is that quite a few of the female transport pilots were trained in this area.

  8. Thanks Gary. I think Donny would be proud.

  9. Chris... I think that it is a great idea - it looks great!

very nice.another 39 in kansas. It's nice to see one restored to remind us that have modified ones , what they once were. And to remind us of a great time in our country.

  12. Thanks. The coolest part is the car is unrestored. I got the car from the original owners widow 59,000 miles. All is stock and in good shape, the only thing that was done to the car was a repaint of the original color in the mid 80's. After I got the car it had been sitting for a few years covered, in a shop. The car needed brakes, tires, and alittle sweeking.;)

Looks good. Should be a nice reminder to young folks and the not so young about the sacrifices that the men who came before us made.

You have hit on one of my true motivations for doing the car.;)

I'm sure i'll catch up to him one of these days!!

The car looks awesome, that thing is super sharp. I also agree that the paint is too clean to have changed it. Looking forward to seeing it in person sometime!

Nice work. I think the AAF would have been USAAF at that time and was USAAC(Corps) previously.
