The bracket that went between the radiator support and grill is not the correct bracket that used on the 65 AFX & BFX Comet Cyclones. But who cares Donald Allen did a beautiful job on that car. It was 6 AFX 65 Comet Made By Stropp. I have a Pictures of the car before it was REBODY'D because the Original was totally sandblasted then taken outside for a while and put under some Pine Trees for awhile (10 years) then found and restored. It was the Chicagoland Mercury Dealiers Assocation driven by Ed Rachanski Car# 5J27A-506994 with the 427 HR with Hillborn Fuel Injection. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~~

Thanks guy's for the kind words.Coming from you guys that means alot.I was deciding between 5 or so cars through the winter,then this one came up on ebay.Lucky for me the owner wanted to devote more attention to his GM muscle collection.I think he liked the fact I was bringing it back to where it was designed.
The car's very solid.Originally a 3spd column car.Changed to 4spd.There isn't much I want to do to change the appearance.It has a great stance.Getting some tire rub issues with the 15"wheels.Just want to cruise with it for now.

Need some help here. Putting a 5 spd lenco in a real nice comet. Car has a fresh 482 and ran a c-6. Could somebody with a 427 in a comet please post some pics of Your clutch linkage. The firewall has been seriously modified in this car already and the the mastercylinder has been moved outboard so the pentroofs would clear. I have a clutch and brakepedal assy only. There is no rods or z bar. This could have been an origional automatic car cause I see no evidence like holes or nutserts anywhere. So some pictures would help out alot. I will post some pics tomorrow. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Mutts...why hood pins? Just wondering because I'm putting a Crites dual snorkle glass hood on the 64 Cyclone.

 

I wasnt speaking from personal experience, just going by what the Crites site says: "hood pin kits are recommended on all hoods".

 

Ask Roy I'm sure he has a picture of his fiberglass hood bowing up on the edges. He just added hood pins too. On my falcon I just took out the hood bumpers and installed the pins there. I then slid a rubber grommet from a rear shock mount over it so it stays tight on the hood (learned this from Roy).

 

O.K...so I'll put two hood pins on the front corners.Should I eliminate the hood latch? And should I use the original hood hinges,but lighter springs?

 

Up until recently, I only had the hood latch working on my Crites hood. Then I really saw it rise up in quarter mile racing as opposed to the slower speeds of the eighth mile. Hood pins went in, shock absorber snubbers utilized, but I kept the stock hood latch as an added safety. Why not? Its just a couple pounds..

I also went to down to a wire and spring company, and bought several sets of light duty springs. Gave up on that. All caused the hood to bow in some way or another upon closing. So- no springs, and I have chain, and pins to hold it in place in the up position:

 

Take your time cutting the hood pin holes, the way the hood closes is at an angle so the hood does not just drop straight down on the pins. Drill small pilot holes after u get it all lined up then increase the size of the hole until the hood fits. I will also be running my hood latch and no springs i have the crites prop rod as well.Mustang suppliers sell light weight springs for fiberglass hoods if u want to try some lighter ones

 

Muttleys right.If I were racing the car,hood pins would be on the agenda no doubt.Right now for just normal driving and cruising,it seems pretty stable.

When you bring the Comet Cyclone over you can try it out on my 100 ft cement Launch Pad I have for testing Comets, its up to you. I got the Beswick AFX Comet back from Pa. the other day. ~~~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~~

You 64/5 Comets Guys know that the location for the Hood Pins on the 64 AFX Comet is in a different Location then a 65 Comet AFX & BFX Car also the type of Pin was differant. I am just letting you Guys know because there are Nitt Pickers out there I met them All one time or other. ~~~~~~AFX DAVE~~~~~~

 

Myron when you take your comet to Dave's ask him if you can borrow a set of slicks to Launch your car down his 100ft Launch pad.
