It's one of the few times where a the car in real life actually looks like the weesner painting/design prior. It's stretching those proportions to almost and exaggerated state while still hitting the mark which in my book is a good thing. Any time you can get a car to look like something in Weesner's head is a very very good thing.

I can just sit here and stare at it.

 

I managed to get the steering parts made and all hooked up yesterday.

First I made new steering hoop for the spindle. I mocked everything up with the typical steering arm (hoop) that Speedway sells, and the steering effort was WAY too high. After doing a bit of research, I found that my steering leverage ratio was higher than it should be. Making a longer steering hoop put the ratio in the 'sweet spot' and allowed me to be able to turn the wheels with the car stationary.

I could have shortened the pitman arm to accompish nearly the same thing, but making a longer steering arm also gave me better clearance between the drag link and tire when the steering is turned full-lock to the left.







Reshaped the pitman arm, and made the tie-rod ends from Model A pieces.

Im not a fan of cowl steering cause they always look big and bulky and ugly hanging out but your pitman arm looks nice, like the old ball end tie rods too.

I love parallel lines. The lines between radiator prop rod, steering linkage and hairpins are superb! How did you swedge that pice of the colum? That big brass lump behind it?

 

It all looks incredible Brian. Wish I was coming to the the Roundup this year so I could check it out in person.

No Bob, I like it the way it is...they match close enough for me.

Just thinking out loud here, but why do they need to match anyway? Two different parts (radius rod & drag link), two different functions. Are we over-thinking this?

There's probably more thought in just the motor mounts than I have in my whole car.

No, just thought you need to know that detail freaks like me notice these things. I'll be using the A tire rod ends on my '30 Roadster, they are on the shelf 2 feet away from this keyboard. I wish I could get myself motivated to make some progress on the Roadster. Its sunny today, may roll the Lyndwood out and pull the 1912 T out and go for a ride in a 100 year old car. Bob

So should I put a steering wheel on the passenger side and run a drag link to the other spindle too? You know, so it will match? Maybe put the big tires that are on the back on the front too?

Haha. I think I'll just crush it like the Anglia from Monster Garage that somebody posted on here the other day.

The funny thing is, they DO match. The way they clamp/lock is the only part that's different. I guess I'll go take a shit in The Louvre and wipe my ass with the Mona Lisa now....then my day will be complete.

I have not posted on this build thread but have stared at it for hours. The rod ends are perfect! Do you really think Mr Bass has not thought out this car to perfection? I can assure you he has.
