Sorry, I don't know who owned/drove it. I was there with Doug Juonis and his "Hayseed" Vette. Walking the pits, took a bunch of pics of Corvettes/ Gassers etc. that were there.

Belvedere 65, thanks for the reply. I will keep my eyes open for who it was. You must have some good memories of Hayseed. I wasn't at Indy that year but was a couple of years later and I still have some of the best memories. The atmosphere there hooked me for life.

By the way how did Hayseed do?-Jim

If memory serves me, he went one or two rounds. The whole experience is one that stays with you. Cars and drag racing are things that will be with me forever. I still attend any cruise ins and drag races whenever I can. the sounds and smells can't be beat.

Straight axles, tubes and fenderwell headers, bbc's & 4-speeds w/flares and triple taillights? Who in their right mind could butcher a beautiful car like that............
And return it to original ;) Love these old drag Vettes!

I like the look except for the huge front wheels/tires.

Great thread guys, just found it.
We ran this one back in the early 70's in So. Ca. area. A fun ride, wish I had it now.:(

It had a 331 cu.in. Chevy with Hilborn injection and a Joe Hunt Magneto, with a 4 speed of course.:D Sorry for the poor quality of the shots.

A different, better year earlier shot of it. This was before Dave and I partnered up with my motor and parts and brought on Jon's as a sponsor.
There is a red striping between the colors. This was the red, white and blue period for a bunch of cars back then.

A bunch of great pics of old Vettes. No wonder I like these cars-Jim

  19. I wonder how many Corvette Gassers, axle or not got restored into pristine trailer queens.

    thanks

This thread never ceases to revive memories of good ol' Irwindale. What made the car a D/Altered, the engine set back?

The Gage and Barnes roadster ran a BBC on fuel and blower very breifly. It served as one of the first inj gas funny car circuit members as early as 1968. They ran it until the end of 1971 by which time it was on alcohol. Leaven Good Bros ( Alaways thought that was a cool name) ran AA/GS 69-70.

Yup, many good memories there. As to the D/A, I think it was the lack of inside fender panels. As I don't think we exceeded the 10% setback allowed.
It's obviously been a long time, so I'm really not sure now.
So many cars, so long ago.:D Sure miss them now.

It was the last of am era when there was weekly class racing. Does the shoe polish say "10.81" on the window?

All I can make out is the Modified part, so if you can tell, you've got way better vision than I. Which wouldn't take much now. ;o)
I really can't tell, high 10's-low 11's sounds about right, but again I'm not really sure. So many different cars/motors back then. I imagine you've seen many of them around here already.

Before that it had a tube axle, but I only have a few poor pixs of that.

Had to post a picture of mine - pretty much the same since the late 60's. Photo at 2011 Gathering of the Faithful.
