Projects Is my dad crazy?

I'm not crazy about the boxy sheetmetal scoop either. Any of the American Motors scoops would be a better choice, or even an old Mopar scoop.
I think one of the old six pack hood scoops, or one of the 2005-2009 Mustang hood scoops would have a better shape for that car.

Still enjoying all the positive reactions to this car, but I guess I should elaborate on my dads vision.

First off the scoop was supposed to be about 4 inches taller, he wanted to put more modern greg weld wheels on the car (the ones on it now are wheels and tires I had planned to use on another project). He wants to leave the rust, put a bunch of lettering on it with some outrageous H.P. number and then sand it down to look old (I personally hate the fake patina look). The dumbest thing of all, he wants to make a fake role bar for the car. He wanted to cut the springs in the rear and then raise the front up some how.

I guess over all I think the crazy part to me was giving an AMC a gasser/street machine look, not really sure how to describe it, but it definitely works if the bad ideas listed above aren't performed.

 

We need to see these pictures from Hot Rod.

that probably has to be the coolest car I have seen in a while... it is really different and original. Your Dad isn't crazy, he has the eye that not many have. I would keep that one. too cool to get rid of!

 

while im not a huge amc guy that car looks cool id own it it has to be kinda rare with those 2 shifters and things

Geez, boy, take a chill pill! Whose tin is it anyway? Anything you do to a Rambler has to be an improvement.
Had a white six cylinder four door Classic back in the '60's. Painted a blue racing stripe in line with the drivers seat and chucked the hub caps and muffler. Fun while it lasted!

I know most don't go through and read every post, but I wish some would notice the one where I explain that the wheels on it are mine and explains my dads disturbing ideas.

Anyways my scanner crapped out when I actually needed it for once so here are some pictures of the article pictures.

I don't want anyone to misunderstand me, I like the car in this article and wouldn't mind if my dad tried to recreate it, it's just he got going with a plasma cutter and I was afraid it was only going to go south from there.

There is not much your dad could do to that car to screw it up .... why does everyone that has postyed on this thread have confidence in your Dad's judgement and taste ... except you? .... give that some thought.

 

do as you wish....but that's a rare car with the floor shift - AND OVERDRIVE - in a rare consol none the less.....

side note here as to what this actually is...

Twin-Stick first came out in 1963 and was only used through 65. The

shifter will work with any OD transmission. Twin-Stick is a three speed

standard transmission shifter with a short stick on the right of the

standard shifter that takes the place of the overdrive in/out handle

that was located under the dash of other overdrive equipped cars. No

automatic, and no four wheel drive. The "twin sticks"

(no capitalization!) in a Jeep are the shifter and 4x4 activation

-- not the same thing. All Twin-Stick cars had a console mounted

shifter. The transmission has a bigger gap between 2nd and 3rd

than a normal three speed with overdrive. This was so the trans could

be shifted as a five speed -- 1, 2, 2+OD, 3, 3+OD. The normal 3 speed

with OD was shifted like a four speed. The Twin-Stick shifter had the

kick-down button on the three speed lever to facilitate shifting five

speeds as well. There are more controls with the Twin-Stick system also.

I glazed through the article one time and I believe D/SX kind of breaks down like this

D-class of the car depending on weight or engine size can't remember (maybe both)

S-stock

X-if I remember correctly was experimental

I'm probably wrong on all of this but it's just a poorly educated guess

 

I'd do nothing that took it away from being original. that's a cool car. I've never seen one like that with the 3 speed O/D.
