  1. Hey man ! I think I'll have to do SFRO, since I would like to sub-frame the chevy and change the engine and transmission. And I also have to chop it and make it a 2 door. And I would like to get it on the road asap , but I guess we'll find out.

    Nice progress. Keep it up.

  5. Thanks man ! I will

  6. Since I'm going to sub-frame the chevy , this car will be perfect to get the frontend/suspension and rear axle from. The measurments were perfect. I got this malibu really cheap so why not get it right now, but I'll probably do the sub-framing next year.

  7. That's the way to go! lots of parts to sell, so you can keep the build price down. If you're interested in selling your stock '53 frontend brakes and all I'm game!
I might even be interested in the gastank from the Malibu, unless you're gonna use it!

Great work. Couple suggestions, dont limit yourself to US parts that will drive your costs up, this is a custom, there should be some interesting European car parts you can use, keep HAMB'rs guessing, save some shipping and customs fees
I would also suggest rehanging the doors, align your gaps and brace the body (weld in bars to keep square) also add some cross bars to your roller body cart. if the body flexes and the floors are welded in you could have a difficult time ever getting panels to line up later.
Did the car come with glass? plan ahead this could be very costly if you have to ship from US, especially if you damage the glass while cutting for planned chop and have to order twice. rear glass may be able to be tilted if you plan ahead to use stock size, side glass can remain in door, windwhield will likely require cutting.

Keep it going, this is a good build

Isnt that the piece of shit malibu that was on "blocket" for about 4-5k´s? nice to se somebody found it usefull.
Planed a similar subframe on my old -49chev, got a burnt out 1975 cadillac seville for free by a friend. unfortunatly i sold the -49 and the cadillac went to the crusch. Bought myself a -55 packard instead.
Easy and cheap to find parts for the malibu like brakes and such. thats good, keep up the good work!

  11. Finally had some time to work today , and I'm happy with the progress.

The rearend will be slightly narrow but you can use it. I used a similar rearend (out of a El Camino) and the factory GM 4 link in my 53 wagon.. If you want to run steel rims, you have to find some with a narrow backspace (I had a set of 15x6 reversed for the rear). I know some aftermarket mags fit just fine..

I used Airbags instead of the coil springs and had to do a small step notch

By the way, who did you buy the car from in Tidaholm? A friend of mine had a -53 similar to yours standin in a shed just outside of Tidaholm about 10 years ago. just wonders if that could bee your car.
