You can't go wrong if you get your kids and grand kids interested at an early age. Teaching them "lefty loosey, right tighty" helps too.

This reminds me of my nephew Curt {now 20yrsold} when he was 6 he bought a {OT 74 firebird}from my sister, well he would come to our shows & look at every F/bird there,1 time he was laying under the edge of this 75 & the guy see's him & ask whats he doing & Curt starts to tell him he's gots 1 just like it & the guys smiles & pats him on the head & says'did you buy it at Walmart?' Curt's like NO mine's got a Pontiac 400 & turbo 400 W/373 gears, pulls a picture of his out of his pocket & shows the guy "his"car!
the dude looks at me & my wife with a WTF look,we smile & tell him it's true.Curt was the youngest active member of our club.
ALL my kids have been raised in shops or boneyards! they all have a love for cars/truck to some stint,my 16yr daughter is the one i gotta watch-GEARHEAD from Hell!

My 3 year old was watching tv, and they were talking about what you wanted to be when you grew up. My wife asked him "Jackson, what do you want to be when you grow up?" His response: "Drive a hot rod".

Earlier this week he learned about David and Golliath at Church. He was telling his brother (9 months old) about the story. My wife said "Jackson, do you know how David got his strength?" Jackson replied "God gave it to him." My wife then asked, "What will God give you the strength to do?" His repsonse "Drive Dad's wagon."

    I love that kid.

Our son Tony washing his car at the East Coast Nationals in 1977. He is now 35 and has a cool job as an engineer for GM and drives his twin turbo 99 Z-28. My taste in Camaros was for my 69.
Our daughter Bethany helping dad sell a couple of cars. She is now the mother of my 3 grandsons who love cruisin with Pop in the Chopped 37.
Wonder if our family's love of cars had anything to do with the way they turned out.

What is it about kids and T's? My daughter is three, and obsessed with Model T's. At first, i thought maybe she just liked the sound of the word, so I pulled out a couple of magazines that had a mix of deuces, model A's and Model T's on the same page, and asked her to point at the Model T. The little finger went straight to the t-bucket first time. Cracked me up.

That's my dad on the right (NSRA Event Coordinator at the time), my sister and brother (he is finishing a '46 Tudor) and finally me on the left...August 1973 on my 5th birthday. I still own this same car so I guess starting them young still works. I am very thankful my dad got me interested at an early age. To date I have managed to stay out of the pokey and kept on the straight and narrow...I attribute most of this to my dad holding the keys of this hot rod over my head until I turned 21 when he gave me the title. Lots and lots of miles later...as well as wonderful father/son hours spent rebuilding it a couple times I wouldn't take for this experience.

This is my son taken 10 years ago just as I finished rebuilding the sedan. He is now 12 and we are building his first hot rod together...a 1951 Chevy AD 5-Window which was owned by one of my dad's best friends. In fact he used to baby sit me while I was still in diapers. He would drive me around at night in this truck to wear me down enough to go to sleep.

I can't wait until we are traveling down the road together to have fun at a rod run. And yes the '51 is a delay tactic to allow me more time with the '34.

The project is not everyones favorite, a cyclecar with a model t body, but the kids designed it and are doing the major work.

So far they disassembled the car and the bike, cut the frame, welded the frames together and modified the body.

My Hope is 6 but has been hanging with me in the shop since she was 2 ( that's when she claimed a 73 gran torino sport I had bought for the 531c) This is her helping me pull a 272 last week, once it was seperated from the transmission just guided it she wanted to run the jack! My other 2 kids hang out in the shop but Hope is a real gearhead.

Last winter I was selling a an 53 ford tudor when Hope said ... " Dad we should take the motor out of my Torino and make it work in that brown car, that would be cool " I didn't cave this time though.... but either way I think it's cool as hell.

Its always nice when we are trying to decide what we are going to drive for the day and my 2 y/o girl and my 8 y/o boy ALWAYS want to take one of the old cars. Even the ones without a/c, they don't care!

My boys have both always enjoyed spending time in the shop, but Aaron (8) is really starting to get into it.
