I had my roadster out last weekend and was a passenger for most of the trip. I was just sitting and thinking about a few trips I have done in the car and dreaming back to a trip a mate and I took a while ago.

It was one of those nothing trips that turned into one of the highlights of having the car for me. we were having a few beers one weekend , both off work and he suggested we go for a drive during the week, I took it as the beer talking and agreed, expecting it to go no where.

Anyway he calls the next day and we organise it for mid week. The night before we are going my wife suggested we should make it an overnight trip and have a good drive if we want, we were only planning a day jaunt. So in the morning I call but get his message bank and leave the suggestion.

He turns up and says he has packed some stuff in case we do decide to stop somewhere. So we head off down to one of Australia’s great drives the ‘Great Ocean Road’ nowhere in particular planned on being a destination and no real return time.

I think over all I enjoyed this trip as unlike most things with the car it’s a hurry to arrive at a destination to attend an event, or get to someones place etc. This ‘run’ in the car, the destination was nowhere.

In the end in the early evening we found ourselves heading into rain, it had sprinkled on and off in the afternoon, but was steady so we found a room at the next town and had a good night at the pub with a meal a few beers and a few games with the locals.
The next day we back tracked and headed inland and through the Otway ranges, so great scenery with the mist rising etc.

We got caught 10mi from home on the freeway in peek hour stop start traffic, it started to bucket down, but I was as happy as a pig in a puddle, it was a great trip, great to catch up with a long time mate and great to get out in the roadster and just enjoy the car for what it was built to do, drive and enjoy it.

  3. Neat car and a fine drive, 'the great ocean road'. Beautiful along the coast and through the forest bits as well. Thanks for the pictures and bringing back some memories.

  4. Great Ocean road is one of the best roads to drive but I bet even better midweek, alot less tourists! Never made a mid week attack on it...

But you're right Corey, I find some of the best times have been spent aimlessly driving with no real time, deadline or even destination.

I did that many years ago whilst on my way home from Port Fairy Rod Run. I struck similar conditions as you have showed in the photos but had a blast. One of Australias greatest drives and I can agree it is best done when you do not meet so many Asian Tourists. I've been wanting to do it again but it has just not happened.

  21. I remember you talking about this one....very very kool pix Corey.

Love seeing that mist rising in the ranges.

Hmmm, maybe we have to arrange a "run" for when I clap my mitts on the new ride, could be a blast !

I am envious of the car, the scenery and the place. LA is fine but Melbourne is the best.

No problems at all, it seems to be running well...

HAHA Troy, the hood is off but the bonnet is still on! These photos were taken in November 2010.

It was a great trip, very relaxing and being mid week it wasn't a kamikaze run either. I don't know I would suggest mechanical brakes and the great ocean road as compatible but you never know...

    Thanks All,

Just thought some might like to see the photos. Good memories thats for sure. After having kids I don't get the car out as much as I would like to so these sort of trips are always memorable.

Found a quote that really fits here:

It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end.
    Ursula K. Le Guin

Sounds like she owned a hotrod. Great scenery to go with a great roadster.

There is nothing like the view you get from the seat of a roadster.
