Just remember: A 261 crank is the same as a 235. The 261 gets it's extra 26" from a bigger bore.

One thing I remember being told about the 261 was that you had to pay close attention to head bolt lengths when R&R head, as there was one bolt slightly shorter that if it wasn't in the right place it cut off an oil passage. Don't remember what oil passage. The engines were fairly numerous in Chevy trucks just before the advent of the sbc.

  5. Your thread makes me smile. Not only do you have the "bones" of a hot rod here, you are having a priceless time with your dad in a relationship as two adults. A lot of us never got that opportunity, and I have no doubt that the time you are spending with your dad is giving you more satisfaction than the car is. Enjoy!

  6. It was nice meeting and talking to you today. I love this build!! Very cool car. Bring it to the roundup and we'll line 'em up next to each other..

Thanks it worked out really good and looks like it should. I think it was a good idea and saved a bunch of money also. I am sick over getting rearended in my 37 on the way home from goodguys yesterday. At least the damage was not bad agHHH:mad: [IMG]

There's a reason all the new(er) cars have big, ugly tailights, it's inattentive drivers behind you. Sorry you got hit in that beauty.
Exactly the reason that I'm installing LEDs inside the louvers on my Hiboy build as a 3rd brake. On a closed car, I think I'd consider a 3rd in the back window, sealed to glass to avoid backglare.

great post. read the whole thing.

I say put the cool hubcaps back on. those are 1949 only and fairly rare, even with ebay. I never even saw one on a 49 until I had mine for like 20 years.

These are diffrent wheels they are 16" and the hub caps wont fit em. I am going to have my other wheels powder coated. I was thinking lancer hubcaps. Any one intrested in the 49 chevy caps? what are they worth if I decide to sell em? Thanks for the look
