  1. And I thought it was just me that was glad 2011 is done and gone, it was one of those years. Hang in year and wishing you the best in the future.

I brought home the first of the 3 sedans today. The frame is solid and is going under the coupe. The body will go on a repairable frame from the second car and saved for later.

The second car will be parted out.The third car has a few useable parts but is pretty much Victorian lace so the shell will go in my cedar thicket as a lawn ornament. Better that than turned into Chinese hammers.

I got the last one home. Turns out the second one was the worst. This one has solid rear wheel wells, a good dash and the frame looks somewhat savable.

OK, on second look the frame is toast. But the wells were good. Just a couple small areas to patch.

I decided to start on the doors. I made a hammer form for the bottom.
Worked the edges with a nylon mallet.
Took it out of the form and ran it through the bead roller.

    Test fit in the door.

It still needs some massaging, I may modify the hammer form and make another. It was hard to make a pattern from a door with the bottom rotted off so it wasn't exact.

You may be on to something. I can cover it and carve out a 40 Ford coupe.

Yeah, I do that too. I guess I look at the coupe and how much there is to do. Then I look at that 39 sedan in the driveway and figure I could have the metal work on it done with a solid week of effort and wonder what the hell I'm doing beating on the coupe.
Speaking of which, I modified the hammer form and made another door bottom. It should fit better at the front edge.
    Gratuitous blurry pic.

I think you should get the doors fittin before you lock em up too tight. Maybe just tack weld your new pieces in place so you can still move and twist the doors as required. They should still move ok regardless tho...just might make it a bit easier.

If you have trouble gettin the doors aligned, feel free to PM me and I'll help all I can.

I made another hammer form tonight and got another piece of the door made.
    IMAG0402.JPG

I made a form for the section that meets the door skin but it didn't fit right, so I think I will wait till I get this piece tacked in and make a new form for that section.

I got the rest of the pieces made and clamped the door together for a trial fit.
    IMAG0404.JPG

It shuts and doesn't sag now.
    IMAG0403.JPG

I'm going to tack it together tomorrow, fine tune it and then weld it up. After that I'll wheel a piece to repair the lower skin.
